“ Good Restaurant where you can go for a delicious lunch but also for a nice dinner. They have a large menu from pancakes to good meat or fish dishes. After first making a nice village walk you can have a delicious meal here. Or you can choose to walk through the meadows to Broek in Waterland from the Sparrowhouse. You will find a route description in our information book.”

“Our all time favourite spot in the spring and summer! The thea garden is located in the middle of the countryside, among the animals, on the water. Enjoy an extensive high tea with homemade delicacies in our garden or on the terrace or opt for a fresh sandwich and a piece of cake or scone. Freshly baked! In the meantime, the chickens roam the garden and the children can enjoy playing. It is also possible to rent a whisper boat and relax in the middle of nature. Cruise through narrow ditches, across small lakes, past grazing cows and through the beautiful historic village of Broek in Waterland. Complete your trip on the water with our well-stocked picnic basket and enjoy an ideal day out. ”

Island
“Marken Distance: 68 km The former island of Marken is located in the province of Noord-Holland at the Markermeer and the Gouwzee. It has been a ,tourist attraction for at least a century. Marken's striking traditional costume has contributed to this. Until the arrival of the Afsluitdijk, Marken was a village ánd an island in the Zuiderzee. In 1957, a dike was built between Marken and the mainland, causing it to lose its status as an island. The Marken peninsula is now a popular tourist destination. Almost the entire peninsula has a protected cityscape and there are several national monuments. The most famous building on Marken is the lighthouse known as “Het Paard van Marken” ( The Horse of Marken) Many tourists already know their way to the former island, because of the monumental wooden houses and colorful costumes. In 1957 the island was connected to Monnickendam with a dyke. Characteristic for Marken are the wooden houses on stilts. Even older are the so-called "yards", artificial elevations on which people lived.”

“500-year-old Carillon Tower reveals its secrets. The oldest carillon in the world. And the most out of tune! Stand face to face with the great, turning, rattling drum. Cameras explore the tower from inside.”

“Typical Dutch landscapes and small villages. Beautiful to cycle through on a sunny spring or summer day. The city is so near, but when you are there you are completely away from the city buzz; you will only see grass, water, cows, sheep, farms, horizons....”
