Come and join us in one of the most beautiful villages on the Jurassic Coast - and possibly in England! The village has two pubs within easy walking distance, both offering food and open fires. ABBOTSBURY offers a great village shop, galleries, tea rooms a play park and famous attractions including; the Swannery, Tropical Gardens and Tithe Barn - ideal for our younger visitors. Abbotsbury and the surrounding area has something for everyone, walking, fossil hunting, cycling, water sports, great beaches, historic sites, great sun sets and fantastic places to chill . We are on the South West Coastal Path (SWCP) for those who are taking on that challenge. The County town of Dorchester, market town of Bridport and beach resort of Weymouth are all within easy reach.
  • We had a lovely two night stay at Jackie and Duncan's house. The location is fantastic, right in the heart of the beautiful village of Abbotsbury and their garden has stunning views looking up at the chapel. Jackie was a great host, very friendly and welcoming with lots of information about where to visit/eat/drink in the local area. The rooms were clean and comfortable and had everything we needed and it was a real bonus to have use of our own private lounge. a lovely space to relax in the evening. Would definitely stay again if in the area.

  • Jackie is an amazing host and we thoroughly enjoyed our brief stay in Abbotsbury. The home is a historic cottage with a classic thatched roof, complete with a triceratops and ammonite added for decoration. Our room was very comfortable and the bed was just firm enough. Jackie puts on a great breakfast and even though we didn't feel up to a cooked breakfast, she had a small bowl of fresh blueberries and strawberries waiting for us with other healthy treats in the morning. We followed her suggestions and walked the mile out to the beach and circled St. Katherine's Chapel. Abbotsbury is such a beautiful village and the surrounding countryside is fairy tale quality. Jackie has 3 wonderful dogs that were very well behaved and made us feel right at home. Her son brought out a wonderful ammonite collection and other fossils he had found from the Jurassic cliffs nearby. We loved visiting with the family and wished we could have stayed longer, as the town begs to be explored and enjoyed. Jackie's accommodations are probably one of the best we enjoyed on our 2 week tour around the UK. So glad we were able to stay in this beautiful home.

  • Jackie and her lovely family were wonderful hosts and we felt so at home in her spacious house. She made us a delicious breakfast every morning and also it was a treat to play with their dogs! It was a great base to explore Abbotsbury and beyond, taking in so much of the Jurassic coast in the two days. I thoroughly recommend staying at this airbnb!

    Emma2015-11-09T00:00:00Z
  • We would like to thank Jackie and her family and of course the dogs for a lovely stay in their beautiful home. Our visit may have been short, but it was very sweet :)

    Louise2015-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Jackie's home was just exquisite. we had plenty of room for use. The bedroom as well as the downstairs where a fire was set and ready to go..

    Doug2016-05-18T00:00:00Z
  • Believe me, it is just Paradise on earth... Everything has been just perfect: the apartment, in the lovely ancient house, with even our own fireplace and living room and a wonderful view on the countryside... The village is so cute, full of wonderful I walks and very close to seaside, where you can really enjoy the beach and maybe even fish or make a barbecue! But most of all I have to say that Jackie and her family made the real difference for our journey! Thank you, really, for everything, for your kindness, for your happiness, and for the time spent together! You really have a wonderful family and you make us feel part of it, even for just a couple of days! A huge hug to all of you!

    Carolina2015-05-24T00:00:00Z
  • The accommodation was lovely. It was especially nice to have the comfortable sitting room to relax in after a day of hiking. The house was in a perfect location and Jackie was an excellent host. We had a great couple of days and would definitely return.

    David2016-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • We had an absolutely lovely and fab stay at Jackie's house. Not only did she navigate us through the narrow roads of Dorchester in the middle of the night due to road closures but she also provided us with useful facts about the lovely area around Abbotsbury. The house is absolutely beautiful, clean, tidy and super comfy. By the second we arrived, we felt immediately at home, although we only stayed for one night. Besides that she also makes the most amazing breakfast! We had a very restful night and wished we could have stayed longer, but we'll definitely be back some time in the future. Thank you so much for making our stay at yours absolutely wonderful Jackie.

Hygge garden cabin with lovely views. No cars or buildings in sight. At night you’ll drift off to lowing cows and tinkling stream. Walk through our unspoilt village of Swyre, to the beach where you can hop in the sea or simply admire the Jurassic coast. To fill a rainy day, try eating all that foodie Dorset has to offer or head to a pub for a Palmers ale, before staggering home to snuggle in front of a blazing fire. The cabin is nestled at the foot of our house. It faces into a meadow beneath.
The bathroom has a rain fall shower and underfloor heating. The kitchen is fine for chilling your wine, making a cuppa and toasting your tea cakes! For top notch grub, there are pubs within walking distance. The ceiling is quite low (193cm/6ft4 at the lowest point), so the tallest amongst you will, I'm afraid, want to remain seated or lying down (!) The garden is shared with us. Neighbouring garden also has room for two more guests at The Snug, coming soon but not yet listed on Airb&b. I'm morally opposed to ironing bedsheets-well ironing anything to be honest. All sheets will be washed beautifully and line-dried but may have the odd wrinkle. Please note that we do not have any cooking facilities, nor do we have any intention of getting any because we don't have the time to clean them and because I know they can make a place smell!
Our beautiful village of Swyre is unspoilt and largely unknown by holiday makers heading for the coast. Our nearest beach is therefore pretty quiet, even on the busiest bank holiday, especially if you can walk 1.5 miles through the fields.
  • Beautiful lodge with the loveliest hosts! Would highly recommend and would definitely book again! Very cosy and comfortable to come back to after a day of exploring!

  • What a wonderful little bolthole in a beautiful location!! Kitty’s place was warm, cosy and so so comfortable. Attention to detail was so evident and made for an absolutely lovely stay. The food and treats waiting for me on my arrival were much appreciated after a long drive and the fireplace was so nice to curl up by on an evening. Thank you so much for a wonderful stay!! I hope to be back and can’t wait to tell my friends about this treasure of a spot.

    Nadine2017-10-19T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at the Cabin was fantastic. We received a warm welcome and there were even strawberries to greet us. The Cabin is a very warm and snug place to stay in a great location close to the coast and some great eateries. The shower in the bathroom is a particular highlight!

    Matt2017-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful and stylish cabin, with wonderful country views. Perfect for a relaxing weekend away and lovely hospitality from the hosts. Would highly recommend. Definitely would also recommend the short walk to the Crown Inn in Puncknowle for a Sunday roast!

    Mike2017-09-04T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin and location are great. Kitty and Magnus are lovely and great hosts. The cabin is attached to their house, so it isn't quite as private as you may think. They have two little children who are very polite but like to be involved, so if you are looking for a complete getaway, this may not be the place to stay. If you like kids, then it is perfect.

    Rosemary 2017-06-18T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely weekend staying in Kitty and Magnus's Long Cabin. The hygge styling was lovely and the thoughtful touches really made it perfect. The delicious freshly made bread in the morning was soooo good as were the nice biscuits on arrival. Amazing shower and bathroom and the log burner worked a treat and kept us lovely and toasty. We had dinner at the Crown in Puncknowle which was walking distance and the food was really good as was the hospitality. We cannot fault our stay it was a perfect recharge weekend and would highly recommend it.

    Christine2018-01-14T00:00:00Z
  • The two main highlights were the log fire making the centre piece of the accommodation and the gorgeous rolling hills as a view from the Long Cabin. We were greeted with a freshly made loaf of bread too! The local Crown inn pub was fantastic too.

    Nuri2017-11-05T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at The Long Cabin for 2 nights and can't fault any aspec of our stay. We drove down from Birmingham and arrived an hour earlier than check-in - we were welcomed immediately by Kitty and shown to the cabin. Beautifully compact and decorated, there was something so homely and easy about having everything so in reach. On the first morning we enjoyed breakfast (supplied by our hosts) on the patio overlooking to amazing view from the cabin! The bed is incredibly comfortable and opening the blinds in the morning makes you feel like you're in a different country! The Crown Inn just a 10 minute walk away was lovely and the beaches are only a short drive / walk away. If we head back to Dorset any time soon, we'll absolutely look to stay here again Thank you!!!

The cabin is simple but snug and beautifully positioned to make the most of the lovely rural views. There's a bedroom, bathroom and patio. No space for a kitchen but there are lots of great pubs and restaurants within walking distance, and guests are welcome to have picnics, BBQs and fires. The garden leads down to meadows and a track leads down to the beach (1.5 miles). Going on foot usually guarantees you'll have it pretty much to yourself, especially during the week.
A simple but cosy summer house in spacious gardens nestled in Dorset's beautiful Bride Valley. Just 1.5 miles from the stunning Jurassic Coast, the Snug is serene and quiet with easy access to all the beauty West Dorset has to offer. Access to the cabin is through a shared drive and garden so the chances are you'll bump into someone en route. We have children, and there's children's play equipment in the garden.
Swyre is a small village in West Dorset on the Jurassic Coast. There are 3 pubs within walking distance, along with a great local farm shop at Modbury. The lovely town of Bridport is 6 miles down the coast, accessible by car or by bus. The county town of Dorchester is 13 miles to the East, where there are train stations serving London and Bristol. I work in Dorchester so let me know if you need lifts to or from the station and I'm sure we'll be able to help.
  • A small but cosy cabin good for a couple of nights. Ideal in the summer months when it would be possible to enjoy having breakfast or a drink outside on the terrace - we stayed at the end of October and it was too cold and internal space a little limited.

    Kate2017-10-29T00:00:00Z
  • This is an ideal place to stay if you want to be in the middle of the countryside in a cosy little cabin. The Snug had everything we needed for our short stay - a bathroom, a fridge, kettle, toaster, comfy bed etc. We stayed over new years and it was so warm and cosy in the Snug. Becky was excellent at communication and made sure we were happy and comfortable. It was very relaxing. The location is good for being close to the beach and to a few local pubs. Would definitely go back, especially in spring/summer as I can imagine it's even better then!

    Ellie2018-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Becky is very kind and communicated quickly with us. It's a lovely area, pleasant village and the surroundings are beautiful. I'll be visiting again soon!

    Luke2017-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • Outstanding offer! detached little house with terrace and a bath for solely use. Lovely view. Decorated with love! Cosy bedroom. I´ll definetly return!

    Werner2017-09-20T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely, relaxing few days in The Snug. The cabin is clean and comfortable with excellent facilities in an idyllic setting. Becky and the family were very warm and welcoming and did everything to make sure our stay was as pleasant as possible. The location was ideal for walks to the beach, long rides and strolls through picturesque villages. Looking forward to visiting again in the future.

    Veronika2017-08-28T00:00:00Z
  • Beckys place is a great location. A great getaway for anyone looking for a peaceful, and relaxing place. Close to the beach, and a short drive to a handful of nice towns. Would definitely go back.

    Jeremy2017-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • Thanks Becky and family for a warm welcome! We enjoyed a peaceful weekend in your lovely cabin, which is accurately described on the site. The little fridge / tea making facilities were really handy and we also appreciated the extra bits you got in for us. The space was cosy and clean with everything we needed for a quiet getaway, with the beach, pubs and the bus stop all within walking distance. Many thanks!

    Caroline2017-07-16T00:00:00Z
  • The Snug was lovely. A perfect little hideaway on the Dorset coast. We stayed for two nights and it had everything we needed for a short visit. The accommodation is clean, tidy and neat with a bedroom and bathroom. There was a kettle, toaster and fridge with tea/coffee and even a couple of beers left for us :-). We had a bbq outside in the fire pit to cook in the evenings. Location was great for us as we could get a bus along the coast and hike back to where we were staying. But also lots to do within driving distance. Really recommend a stay here.

Spectacular ocean views, large living/dining room, open to the eaves, fully equipped kitchen, 2 double bedrooms, Egyptian linen, 2 ensuite stone bathrooms, lovely gardens and direct private access to Chesil Beach (400m across the front meadow). Big TV, DVD & Bose sound dock. Pets welcome. NEXT AVAILABLE: Sat 1st - Sat 8th Sept. Yep; Short House is that popular; many returning guests!
Short House Chesil Beach is a Purbeck stone and render cottage, part of the Long House small private country estate, with 200m of frontage onto Chesil Beach in the centre of Dorset's World Heritage Jurassic Coast and surrounded by National Trust farmland. The house has recently been completely re-fitted with a large open plan living/dining/kitchen, 2 double bedrooms, both with sea views, and 2 ensuite limestone tiled bathrooms with roll top baths, one with a drench shower. A new well equipped kitchen, oak plank floors, LED lighting, large flat screen TV, DVD player, Bose Sound Dock and very comfortable furniture make this the perfect place for an English seaside holiday or a weekend getaway in one of the most beautiful parts of England.
Short House is in an 'Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty' on the World Heritage Jurassic Coast, 3/4 of a mile east of the village of West Bexington. The peace and solitude of such a stunning location and the sound of the waves on Chesil Beach make it a very special place. There are spectacular views over Lyme Bay, the Dorset and Devon coastline. Lots of things to do in this excellent holiday location. Short House is in an area of very low ambient light; on clear nights it is a great location for stargazing.
  • We had a fantastic short break at Short House! It's a beautiful property in a breathtaking and secluded location, with its own private terrace (with BBQ and wonderful views) and the use of the tennis court. Chesil Beach was just a short walk across the field. We really appreciated the welcome pack of groceries too. Andrew and Julie were very welcoming hosts, and we spent an extremely comfortable and relaxing few days, exploring the local area, walking to the Manor House pub for a very nice meal and making the most of the sunshine. Ellie (10) and Charlie (8) particularly enjoyed the tennis court, which also doubled as a football and cricket pitch! Thank you once again.

    Adrian2015-05-29T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely weekend. Gorgeous cottage very well equipped. Great garden with stunning views, Andrew was very welcoming and extremely helpful. Already talking about rebooking and coming back with the dog!

    Heidi2015-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you Andrew for sharing your property with us. Our overall experience, including communication from yourself, was superb from start to finish. The breathtaking views are the perfect way to relax and forget the outside world. Short house is a very well proportioned home and with ample room for four people. The interior was modern and well equipped with everything we could want during our stay. We loved waking to the sound of the waves crashing and couldn't wait to walk our dog to the beautiful beach, which was a stones throw through the garden. We look forward to coming back again.

    Timothy2016-02-04T00:00:00Z
  • Our family really loved staying at the Short House. The setting could not have been more idyllic with its spectacular sea views and horses and sheep. In addition to enjoying a lovely walk through the fields down to the beach, we also enjoyed using the tennis court. Andrew could not have been a better host. He really made us feel at home and was both helpful and relaxed. To be honest, our only disappointment was the lack of spiders in the cottage - another review had led us to believe there would be plenty! :-) All jokes aside, we heartily recommend staying here. We were sad to leave after only 3 days. We would love to have spent longer.

    Daniel2015-10-26T00:00:00Z
  • We've had a lovely stay at the Short House, the pictures do a great job of capturing how splendid the location is and I can confirm on all accounts this is one of the most beautiful and quietest locations we've seen on the jurassic coast. We loved having what seemed an endless amount of space to run around, fly a kite and generally unwind. The Short house has good access (by car) to Weymouth, Bridport and Lyme Regis so it is also a good base to explore the rest of the Jurassic coast. Apart from the location the star of the show was Short house, which is beautifully furnished, in immaculate condition and provided us enough space to relax after a busy day. Andrew was very welcoming, friendly and approachable. After showing us around Short House he left us to get on with our holiday. We also loved that when we arrived Andrew had kindly provided a fresh selection of local produce for us to enjoy. I have recommended the Short House to a few people already and would highly recommend it if you are looking for a quiet Jurassic coast location.

    Tass2016-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • Everything from the hospitality to the place was absolutely perfect. Andrew and his wife Julie were very kind (and forgiving when I accidentally stole their lovely dog for an afternoon walk!). The place is exactly as advertised. A world class location. We had such a nice time, and hope to go back soon.

    Ruth2015-05-22T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay in Dorset. Andrew was very quick at responding to emails and was a very helpful and friendly host. The cottage is well equipped and in a great location - you can walk down to the seafront. Our dog loved running along the coast. We would definitely stay here again.

    Kathryn2015-01-07T00:00:00Z
  • The dorset coast cottage is in a superb location! The cottage is beautiful and is equipped with everything you would possibly need. Andrew was a lovely host and we enjoyed talking with him; and we felt that we could ask for anything that we needed. He had stocked the fridge with wonderful local fare from the nearby farm, eggs and delicious Jersey cow milk. The wine and beer was a lovely touch too, as were the bread and other nibbles. The beds were very comfortable as was the rest of the cottage. The views were amazing, how lovely to have a cup of tea and look out to the sea or the horses in the field. The beach was beautiful and totally deserted; a lovely place to look for fossils! I would recommend this cottage to anyone wanting a very relaxing and quiet break and it would be amazing in the summer!

  • We were a small group of three adults and enjoyed a lovely time staying at the Cow Byre, Wear Farm. This comfortable, well equipped property is set in a quiet, rural location with superb views all around. We enjoyed a circular hill walk from the property to nearby Abbotsbury, for all other trips we needed to use the car. We drove to Bridport, Lyme Regis, Weymouth, Corfe Castle (National Trust) and on our trip to Swanage we went on a steam train journey. On sunny days we sat around the patio table in the garden and admired the view and on the rainy days appreciated the comfortable living space provided.

Dining area and balcony with seating. Downstairs Large bedroom with Double bed or 2 singles if you prefer. Bathroom with shower. Outside walled garden with seating.
Great views around our little farm, can sit on the balcony and see cows, chickens, ducks. Also we have our beautiful donkeys that love to meet visitors. You may also see a range of wild birds, deer, foxes, rabbits and hares. The cottage is situated in a magical valley with lots of places to explore. Perfect spot for listening to the dawn chorus and star gazing. If you like a rural environment then this is the spot.
Our farm is in a beautiful location, but has the benefit of market towns nearby. Is also close to beaches along Jurassic Coast and so a perfect spot for seeing the sites that Dorset has to offer or for just sitting and watching life on the farm go by. We have two very friendly dogs called Ruby and Honey.
  • This is a great place if you want somewhere truly rural. I stayed there for 3 nights in November with my grown up daughter. We were out all day and it was lovely to come back to such warm and cosy accommodation. Judy had left us a breakfast basket which was perfect. My daughter loved it, especially Ant and Dec! The layout is upside down to take advantage of the views from the main room upstairs and it must be lovely in the Summer to sit on the balcony with a cold glass of white wine!

  • Spent a couple of nigh s here with the family to celebrate a birthday! We all had a lovely time. - a gorgeous cottage in a very picturesque village. James brought us round lots of logs when we ran out during our stay! All of the rooms feel spacious. Just a word of warning! If your 6ft plus please remember to duck when coming into the kitchen

    Emma2017-10-08T00:00:00Z
  • We visited with my 83 year old mum, our 4 children and their husbands/partners etc. We had an amazing time. The welcome basket and milk in fridge was a lovely touch. The location in perfect. The cottage is perfect. Amazingly well equipped, cleaned to a very high standard and basically just perfect. We hope as a family to visit again. James went to the trouble of coming to tell us where to take Mum to see the sea and enjoy a coffee without having to walk miles. Which we really appreciated. We can't recommend the house, James or the area highly enough. Miss this, you miss out

Abbeystone Cottage is a traditional 17th Century cottage situated in a picturesque Dorset village that lies on the magnificent Jurassic Coast, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. With original features such as a large fireplace and woodburner, wooden floors and beams it offers a tranquil escape to the country. Within easy walking distance of many amenities and attractions within the beautiful village it is also surrounded by stunning countryside and lies only a mile from Chesil Beach.
Abbeystone Cottage is a cosy cottage with low ceilings and a traditional yet modern feel. Downstairs is a large living room with beautiful stone fireplace, said to have been built using stone from the nearby abbey. There is a separate sunroom for dining, and a modern kitchen and downstairs bathroom with bath and shower over. Upstairs is a separate toilet and two bedrooms with pretty views over the back garden and main street. Outside is a small garden with both a grass and patio area with table and chairs for enjoying the sun! The kitchen is well equipped with microwave, washing machine and fridge freezer but there are plenty of lovely places to eat out locally.
The village of Abbotsbury is very pretty made up entirely of traditional stone and some thatched cottages. There are a selection of tea rooms to choose from, two pubs, art galleries and a shop. There is also the amazing Abbotsbury Botanical Gardens that have a wonderful October event - The Enchanted Illuminations (12th - 25th & 29th October) and Swannery within easy walking distance as well as a children's farm. The Dorset Coastal Path is virtually on the door step and many excellent fishing spots along the beach can be found close by. Just a short drive away (with some stunning views of the coast) you can visit the fishing harbour of West Bay with it's many places to eat and drink. Next to West Bay is the bustling market town of Bridport which has everything you would need including large supermarkets, chemists and a weekly market. In the other direction lies Weymouth with many restaurants, shops and bars and it's famous sea front.
  • Beautiful cottage. Lovely town. Immaculately clean and well presented. Nice touches by the host. Bluetooth. Fireplace. Blankets. Biscuits. An excellent cottage in a memorable town. We will remember this one forever.

  • We had a lovely stay, a very pretty village and lots to do and see around the area.

    Ross2017-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • Had a great long weekend in Abbotsbury at this cottage which is located in the village centre so perfect for nipping to either pub, one of the tea rooms or a browse in the local shops. Abbotsbury is a perfect location for exploring the Jurassic coast and the beautiful county of Dorset. The cottage itself is lovely, well equipped with everything you need, the log burner was welcomed when we got back in after a walk in storm Brian.... Naomi's communication was fantastic and made everything nice and easy. Thanks for a lovely stay.

max 4 people. 1 room has twin beds, other a double bed, sharing a bathroom . B&B only. Ideal for families with kids 5 years or over, 2 couples, or 2 people wanting separate rooms. Simple breakfast of cereals, toast, a boiled egg and tea or coffee. No cooking. Off-road parking, barn for bikes etc. Our house is central in Abbotsbury, a pretty village near Jurassic Coastal Path, Chesil Beach and Ridgeway Walk. Please be aware that the main road can be busy at night with local farm-working traffic.
We provide bed and a simple breakfast of cereals, toast and a boiled egg if required. We do not offer self-catering or cooking facilities but guests are welcome to boil a kettle for tea or coffee in our cosy kitchen. We offer two separate rooms; one with a double bed, other with twin singles, for a family with children 5 years or older, or two couples, or for friends who prefer not to sleep in the same room. These two rooms share a bathroom. There is no TV or kettle in the bedrooms. We can only accommodate 4 people altogether, and sorry, no pets. Parking is free on our drive behind the house. We have a barn where you can store bicycles etc. Located in the centre of Abbotsbury, which is an ideal village to spend time in, and as a base to explore Dorset, the Jurassic Coast, the Ridgeway walk, the Valley of Stones and the many other lovely walks from the village. This small area of West Dorset has a micro-climate, so we have more sun than the national average, and as a result there is the prize winning Sub-Tropical Gardens here. There is also Europe's largest Swannery here. For families with children there is the Tithe Barn which is used as a child friendly model farm, and there is also a village playground with swings etc. Great place for walkers, (see useful website gps-routes).or to explore the countryside, the Chesil Beach, part of the Jurassic Coast, and amazing views from St Catherine's Chapel on the hill behind the house. There is sailing and wind-surfing at Weymouth & Lyme, or diving in West Bay or Portland. There is a golf course within ten minutes drive. Abbotsbury village is small but vibrant with charming cottages, a fabulous farm shop with local meat and produce, teashops selling light lunches or cream teas, two pubs, a post office/village shop and also the the well known Dansel, showroom for West Country wood craftsmen, open seven days a week. Dorset is famed for being Hardy's home and the County town Dorchester is eleven miles from Abbotsbury, a 20 minute drive. West Bay, venue for 'Broadchurch', with its wonderful cliffs, harbour and fish & chip kiosks is a fifteen minute drive. away to the west. Market town Bridport (Notting Hill of the South!) is a twenty minute drive, or you can catch a bus along the scenic Jurassic coast road. Weymouth with its beautiful sandy beach, perfect for children, and for its pretty harbour is twenty minutes in the opposite direction. NB the local beach is not for swimming or paddling as there is a dangerous undertow. It is a peaceful start for beach walks, or for fishing. Sorry we are unable to accept children under 5 years old, as our garden has a few hazards: a small stream, a pond and ungated drive onto the road. Our house is not well adapted for toddlers as we have china and glass placed on low shelves. However for older children there is plenty to do in the village - there is a play park with lovely robust equipment, with benches for the adults to sit if they wish to accompany the children.
There is a fabulous farm shop, a village shop and post office, a sandwich & coffee bar, two pubs, some teashops, a art-glass studio, a gallery selling contemporary woodwok, and a bus service X53 running the length of the Jurassic coast from Poole to Exeter, stopping at villages along the way including West Bay, Bridport, Lyme Regis. We have NO street lighting, so you can see the stars at night, including the milky way when the moon is new. We have a pretty church, and the remains of a Benedictine abbey, as well as beautiful and accessible countryside all around the village. Nearby is the Abbotsbury Sub-Tropical Garden, filled with trees and plants from all over the world, which flourish because of out local micro-climate. The beach in Abbotsbury is pebbly and is used for fishing, it is not suitable for swimming as there is a strong undertow. There are several lovely sandy beaches within a few miles: Hive beach with a good fish restaurant, West Bay where you can get fish & chips from a kiosk, or you can book for the well known Riverside Cafe, or you can go to the long old-fashioned beach at Weymouth, where the water is shallow to paddle in, and there is also a very pretty harbour. Portland with its Sailing Club where the Olympic sailing was hosted, its lighthouse, disused quarries and cliff walks is just beyond Weymouth,
  • We had the most wonderful stay with Barbara and Peter! Their house was stunning and full of creative pieces and we just loved talking with them over breakfast! The stories they shared with us made us feel at home. We didn't want to leave! Can't wait to return to their amazing place and to a fantastic couple!

    Sandra2016-08-28T00:00:00Z
  • Can't recommend the venue or the hosts highly enough.

    Simon2017-07-01T00:00:00Z
  • It is a peaceful countryside. The hosts are very kind, they prepared the breakfast to us. The house is historic and the family has stories.

    Nanping2017-06-17T00:00:00Z
  • My friends and I stayed at Peter and Barbara's for our weekend trip. Both of the double room and twin room are spacious, clean, and filled with a lot of interesting books. Bathroom was also very clean and full of amenities including 4-5 towels per person. Barbara and Peter are amazing hosts and it was really great to talk with them. We were able to enjoy stunning views from St. Catherine's Chapel thanks to the boots the hosts let us to wear and had a great fun in West Bay where Barbara recommend we go the next day. It would have been even better if the rooms had have well-closed windows. However, it was not a big deal because there's only a few cars passing through the facing road. If I have another trip to Abbotsbury or nearby, I won't hesitate to stay here again. Thank you so much, Peter and Barbara!

    Yeonhae2016-05-23T00:00:00Z
  • Myself and two friends stayed at Barbara's for one night on our walking holiday along the Southwest coast path. Abbotsbury is a unique and charming town. Barbara was welcoming and helpful, the rooms were clean and comfortable, and we had a great night's rest. We enjoyed conversing with Barbara and her husband over breakfast. Our only complaint was not being able to connect any of our devices to their wifi.

    Shannon2016-06-02T00:00:00Z
  • Very friendly hosts, great conversation, beautiful house in a beautiful village.

    Henry2014-06-23T00:00:00Z

  • We had such a wonderful time here, it is an amazing place, stunning views and the cottage is very nicely decorated and well equipped. With two young children we arrived stressed and left relaxed, there is a special vibe and of course the area is awesome.

    Sarah2016-07-14T00:00:00Z
  • We loved everything! We could have stayed forever. In our opinion, there was a very Canadian feel to this very English cottage; it felt like home. Log fires, the best cider ever, and every little thing provided for. Not to mention the views, the proximity to so many amazing places, the peace and quiet... and Charlie is a very cool right on dude. You should stay here as long as you can.

    Jason2016-08-01T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our stay at the cottage. It was well placed for a mini-break of fossil hunting.

  • We had an amazing stay at the cottage, it's very lovely. Espically loved the old kitchen, the views, the peace and quiet. It was very clean and had everything that we needed. Thanks for a fab weekend

  • We had a fun long weekend at Bredy cottage. We were looking for peace, quiet, views and a fireplace and we found all of those. The accommodation is rustic in a good way, linen etc were top notch and the house had all the bits and pieces we needed. There is no TV but wifi is great. Easy drive to the Jurassic coast where we had fun finding fossils with the kids. Seafood at the Anchor Inn nearby was very good. I suggest future guests to ask Charlie for instructions how to heat up the house if you are planning a winter stay. Also the accommodation is suitable for 4 people, the single bed is only suitable for a small child. Overall, we enjoyed it.

    A2017-10-30T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely views, great location, allows for 5 people but would say more comfortable for four. Great to have a washing machine and dryer. Some cooking ingredients left along with tea and coffee making facilities. A nice base to see dorset with

    Karen2017-06-02T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely secluded location with good views from the terrace. All necessities provided. Okay for people with limited mobility. Wheelchair bound might struggle to get into the yard. I wouldn't recommend it for those with children but would recommend it for adults looking for a quiet hangout with lovely views and lots of nice places to drive to.

    David2017-07-20T00:00:00Z
  • I took my wife, baby and father for a long weekend. It was a lovely location with views that have to be seen to be believed. The chalet overlooks farmland all the way to the sea. The chalet was beautiful, with the windows and terrace making the most of the view. Beds were really comfy. Charlie has spared no expense to ensure guests have the best, everything: salt and pepper, washing up liquid, to towels, bedding and cutlery; were from high end stores like Waitrose. If you need anything or want local advice you can call Charlie, or have a stroll down to the farm and have a chat over one of the farm's ciders in the cider shed. A really magical stay in a wonderful chalet. We are in the process of rebooking for later this year.

  • Had a wonderful stay at Mags' place. Perfect setting, just a few yards from the glorious views on the coastal path. Mags is so kind and really helpful and is such a great host, easy to communicate with and super responsive to anything you need.

  • MAgs greeted us and was extremely peasant. She showed us the accommodation and parking space and had supplied muesli , yoghurts, tea coffee and milk in a small fridge which was very welcome as the weather was very hot

    Judith2016-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • I was travelling on my own and booked into the annexe, but renovation work wasn't complete so Mags upgraded me to the cottage rather than cancelling me - so kind! It's a lovely little space with everything a singleton or couple might need. Please just note that there are twin beds rather than a double if you're a couple looking to snuggle! The location is amazing too. Walk up the hill and you're on the Jurassic coast. The view and the walks are stunning.

Lovely fresh linen and a very good welcome hamper. We would definitely recommend a stay here, a car is needed to visit places. We would also recommend a visit to abbotsbury for the farm/swannery and subtropical gardens. A trip to The Hive is a must regardless of weather.

What makes The West Wing unique is that you really feel at home, with open fires, great views and a sense of total calm. Two comfortable double bedrooms with an open plan sitting room/kitchen.
  • We had curiosity about exploring Dorset and a last-minute free weekend - we couldn't have chosen better than the West Wing! Wonderful setting in lovely countryside, near to market towns and beaches, and our son loved meeting all the animals and playing in the garden of this unique property. The apartment has glorious high ceilings and cosy furnishings, everything you need and more. Comfy beds, and so quiet and peaceful and spacious. We received a warm welcome, tips and suggestions, and even extras like bread, milk and kids' toys and books from these amazing hosts. We will definitely be coming back as soon as possible.

  • We are just back from a great weekend at The West Wing. Evie’s wonderful home is spacious and very comfortable and in a stunning setting. The kids’ toys and books were very much appreciated and we enjoyed exploring the gardens and grounds despite the blustery weather. The hosts were extremely welcoming and we would love to return sometime!

  • Highly recommended if you want an idyllic rural get away beside Bridport, Chesil Beach and the Jurassic Coast. Quirky and characterful house built in castellated style by the host’s charming father, who we met. We loved the views over the grounds and waking up to the animal bells jangling in the next field. The interior of the house is also charming with a real fire and cosy furniture. It has everything you need as well as a great base from which to visit the Jurassic Coast. We especially loved Bridport and Lyme Regis.

  • If you get a chance to stay at The West Wing, take it! You won't be disappointed. The house is out of this world, and The West Wing is extremely comfortable and exceptionally tastefully decorated. The setting is spectacular, nestled into the hills of Dorset, and only 40 minutes from Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove. We spent cosy evenings by the fire and enjoyed country walks in the grounds. Evie is very friendly and helpful, too - just a great place all round!

  • Julie and Mark couldn't have made me feel more welcome. Mark texted me clear directions on the day but when I overshot the turning in the dark came out looking for me! He asked what I wanted for breakfast and when I said "Toast...marmite .. would be fine" said "Oh" and promptly went out to buy Marmite! Mark also advised well about local places to eat and helped me find directions to my next stop. Oh, the view from my room was lovely. Julie was out for most of my time but was so warm and friendly when she came home. I hope to be back.

We couldn't be happier and wished we could stay longer. The bed was very comfortable and those views! 5 stars is not enough. Thank you both so much!

  • I stayed in the East room for 2 nights and it was like being home from home, Julie and Mark welcome you into their home like a long lost friend and are both great to talk to. The house is very old and has a lot of history and the views are stunning. Everywhere was spotlessly clean and you have the use of the kitchen to cook if you want to. Breakfast is help yourself and you have a good choice of cereals and marmalade, ect. On my last night they were kind enough to share an excellent bottle of Rioja with me whilst we sat round the kitchen table having dinner and putting the world to right. I would recommend staying with Julie and Mark to anyone because I know that they are excellent hosts and offer great value for money. Many thanks to you both for being so welcoming.

  • Just returned from a 48hr fishing adventure on the South Coast. Julie and Mark's place is lovely and exceptional value. They are so helpful, tolerant and welcoming hosts who bent over backwards to ensure my short stay was relaxing. The room is spacious, clean and tidy( exceptional comfortable and the power shower is heaven after a hard day on the beach. They have great plans for the future. I can not wait to go back (I will definitely stay again on my next South Coast fishing adventure)

Shipton Gorge, Bridport, Dorset, United Kingdom

A 17th century country house, set in a lovely Dorset valley just a mile from the sea. In three acres of secluded gardens with mature trees, lawns, orchard and walled vegetable garden, the beautifully restored house is the perfect base for exploring, walking, cycling, swimming or fossil-hunting - or for just relaxing at home!
This is a seventeenth century country house over three floors, which has been carefully restored. It has ancient elm floors, lime plaster walls, stone flags and stone mullion windows, under a thatch roof. There are comfy beds, lots of books, sofas, armchairs and an open fire, a well-equipped kitchen and beautiful views from every room. You'll find wifi - but no tv! And a woodland spring dedicated to St Bride lies behind a book-lined summer house for quiet reading - or an evening drink.
We're a couple of miles from the beach, completely private and self-contained, but 500 yards from a great farm shop at Modbury which sells its own fresh unpasteurized Jersey milk, seasonal local vegetables, local cheese, meat, butter and eggs, as well as useful things like Ecover washing-up liquid and tea and tinned tomatoes - from 7am to 7pm. You have a proper fishmonger at West Bay. Bridport is ten minutes, with a Saturday and Wednesday market with local organic produce. There's Lidl, Waitrose and lots of real shops, including bookshops and Malabar and bakeries. It's a handsome market town. For eating out we suggest Hive Cafe in Burton Bradstock, with the Seaside Boarding House on the cliff above, especially for a drink; the Riverside Restaurant at West Bay is always delicious, and there's art + good food at Slader's Yard, and Rachel's is one of the fish and chip shacks, for better f&c. The Anchor at Seatown, by Chideock, is really good. A bit further afield in Beaminster is Brassica. Walks are tremendous - hill forts, hidden chapels, the whole coast from the hills, the Chesil Beach, the hollow ways around Chideock... or plain old footpaths that lead you into the Bride Valley or over to the sea. You are in the greatest array of prehistoric barrows in England, too.
  • A fantastic historic house in a beautiful location close to lots of great coastline and things to do.

  • Having been away from my beautiful England for 4 years, this gorgeous house was the perfect place to stay with my family. Everything was beyond perfect. From the cleanliness to the simplicity of the decor and the sheer beauty of the surroundings made this the best Airbnb place I have stayed in. We did not want to leave! Thank you Jason for being the perfect host. Alexandra

  • This was a brilliant Air B and B stay. Huge Grant look alike host Jason, was pure English charm personified and no request was too great. He welcomed us to his beautiful 3 floored , spacious yet cosy house and has us all laughing in moments. The house was stunning- sun soaked and pretty, with well looked after gardens. We were two families staying and had plenty of room with all the children. We all loved staying here - our dogs and kids running around freely in the grounds, cosy fires in the evening and lots of home cooking. There are incredible beaches 10 mins from the house and a UNESCO world heritage beach half an hours drive away. It's a gorgeous part of England with lots to do and see. The only thing that is annoying is that there is no phone reception anywhere! Luckily the house has full internet. I would really recommend a stay at Berwick House. Pinky Laing- Stamm

  • What an incredible house! Even better than it looks in the photos. An incredible location in the countryside but close enough to the beach/shop/pubs to not feel too remote. We absolutely loved it.

  • The House was easy unfussy, peaceful and unpretentious . we took a few extra bits and pieces for the kitchen as we knew we would be cooking alot. Fantastic for all the beaches and also a great base for family breakfasts and dinner.
