“Phuket Aquarium: An island vacation wouldn’t be complete without fish, and we're not talking about seafood, either. For an afternoon of fun – learning about what you eat and what might eat you (not really) – the Phuket Aquarium is required viewing. Recently renovated and featuring thousands of tropical, colourful and exotic marine creatures, the aquarium is a hit with youngsters who may not have come up this close and personal with such unusual sea life before. History Museum
“Thai Hua Museum on Krabi Road is one of the best looking and well-maintained Sino-Portuguese buildings in Phuket. This recently renovated building was at one stage a Chinese-language school. These days it is used as a museum, exhibition space and an occasional function hall. In 2008, the Thai Hua Museum was given an award in the category of constitutional and public buildings by the Siam Architect Association under the King’s patronage for its outstanding role in conserving architectural arts.”

Museum
“Phuket Trickeye Museum is entirely dedicated to the art of trompe-l’oeil (French for ‘deceive the eye’), a painting technique that creates a 3-dimensional illusion on a 2-dimensional (flat) support. Set in a large 2-storey building at the intersection of Montri and Phang Nga roads, Phuket Trickeye Museum displays a gallery of something like 100 paintings offering great photo opportunities as well as a lot of fun. Sample photos are available to indicate visitors how they should position themselves in front of the paintings in a way to take the most realistic illusional picture (it also means that the experience is better with friends so you could take each other’s photos). From classic paintings with a twist to scenes of modern life to historical settings to movie scenes, visitors travel a lot geographically and through time in this highly amusing museum. Opening Hours: Daily from 10am to 7pm Location: 130/1 Phangnga Rd, Talat Yai, Muang, Phuket 83000, Thailand Tel: +66 (0)76 212 806”

“Phuket Bird Park is a beautifully arranged plot of hillside land that has exotic flora, winding paths, odd memorabilia, 3 cafés, a souvenir shop and of course, hundreds of beautiful birds from all around the tropical world. The experience starts with a lovely wooden bridge – the sort you see in Disney cartoons with multi-coloured butterflies darting about – and a display of indigenous masks along with what appear to be didgeridoos. Scenic Viewpoint
“Khao Khad Viewpoint (Panwa Viewpoint) is a solitary standing viewpoint on top of one of the highest and most remote hill of Phuket, and a bit of a mystery. The whole place is surprisingly well maintained and clean, grass neatly mown and signage bright. What You Can See So get ready to climb up some two hundred steps and see how fit you are. Panwa Viewpoint building has two levels above the ground floor and the 360˚ view from the top is breathtaking. On a clear day, you can see all the way to Phang Nga Bay.”

“One Chun (more correctly spelt Wan Jan, meaning 'Monday' in Thai) is a family-friendly restaurant near the intersection of Thepkasattri and Dibuk roads in Phuket Old Town. Unpretentious yet trendy, this restaurant is extremely popular for both its authentic southern Thai cuisine and its quirky vintage décor and relaxed atmosphere. Featuring an alfresco area in its backyard, One Chun is as much a place to meet friends around a drink as a restaurant. Its extensive menu hosts all the favourite Thai dishes from roasted duck with red curry to crabmeat with yellow curry to pork panang – so, plenty of local delicacies for you to sample. As the restaurant mostly caters to locals, be wary of how spicy some of the dishes may be. “Timber Hut is a long-established venue in Phuket Town. It opened in 1990 and went through the years without changing much of its décor and atmosphere, which may contribute to its constant success. Mostly frequented by Phuket’s hi-so youngsters, it also attracts many foreigners curious to get a glimpse of the local after-dark entertainment scene. Set in a 2-storey, red-brick building on Yaowarat Road at the northern end of Phuket Old Town, Timber Hut hosts a daily live music shows in which international and Thai classics are performed by talented and skilled musicians. Food and drinks are sold at affordable rates, and from time to time, you might be even able to spot Thai and international celebrities on holiday enjoying a drink there. “Raya Restaurant is, without doubt, the best place if you want to sample authentic Thai cuisine in Phuket Town. Set in a converted 2-storey shop-house built at the beginning of the 20th century in Phuket Old Town, the restaurant offers its customers a feeling of dining at the museum in addition to the great quality of the food served here. Raya is so renowned that it often has movie stars, royalty, TV personalities and other VIPs for customers. In fact, they even have customers in Bangkok who request the star dish – the crabmeat curry – be specially flown up to the capital. With excellent genuine Thai cuisine, historical settings, relaxed atmosphere, and fair prices, Raya is a must-sample restaurant in Phuket Town.
