Holiday Rentals in Wingina

Just booked in Wingina

My new 1536 sq. ft. cottage on the James River has something for everyone. Private river access, hot tub, internet and best of all, peace & quiet. Located in beautiful central Virginia & only 5 minutes from Yogaville.
BillyVille sits on over 9 acres of land in the foothills of Virginia, just minutes from the Satchidananda Ashram - Yogaville. Enjoy a peaceful, seculded location with modern amenities and the freedom to make the most of your Yogaville visit or country getaway. The rental cabin is situated atop a hillside above the James River. A breathtaking back-porch runs the length of the cabin and makes it feel as though you are perched among the many birds in the lush Virginia forest canopy. Billyville is bordered on one side by the James River, and has a beautifully serene Canoe & Kayak landing. The property on which BillyVille is built is rich in local history. The very structure of the main house was once the general store, post office, and jail of Manteo County, and our stretch of the James River was a popular Native American trading area.
  • Billyville was just as I hoped it would be...a quiet place to relax and unwind while spending time with my friends. The property gave us plenty of freedom and private space to roam, run about and explore with our dogs. The view from the cabin above the James River is spectacular. Our dogs had a fantastic time on the property and swimming in the river. The hot tub, outdoor shower with hot water, front and back porch, fire pit, charcoal grill, shuffleboard table in the basement, plethora of DVD movies from which to choose and a number of games to play all made the stay that much more enjoyable. Of course, there wouldn't be a Billyville without Billy! I spoke with him on the phone before arrival, and he was available via phone during my stay. I got to meet him a few days after I arrived. Billy is a most friendly, down to earth guy. I was curious about the history of the property and full of questions. Billy answered each one with enthusiasm and even showed me a few places I may not have seen if it were not for the tour he gave upon my request. He even made a delicious vegetable salad and brought it to the cabin for me and my friends to share. Billy also took the time to get to know our dogs--he even came down to the river with us to help throw sticks for them to fetch while answering my many questions. We spent 2 weeks at Billyville and enjoyed the whole time. I will definitely go back! Thank you Billy!

  • Exactly as described; perfect for a weekend getaway and had everything we needed! Super relaxing and beautiful property.

  • My husband and I celebrated a quiet Thanksgiving here with our pup. We had a great time cooking together in the open kitchen. There's a huge metal counter to work on and a great big sink. We watched The Office while doing prep work and drinking wine. It was such a relaxing stay! Our dog seemed right at home, she even did a little wading in the cold river! There were hundreds of new smells and she loved leaping through the tall grass. We would definitely return! I'd love to see the Virginian forests in late spring

    Elly2016-11-26T00:00:00Z
  • We found Billyville without a problem, and enjoyed the scenery, great wifi, and area in general. All of the DVDs were a huge bonus, and the house itself is quite cute. Perhaps our standards vary from other guests but we found ourselves wanting the house to be a bit cleaner... it did not seem that the sheets were clean, and the house could have used a wipe down. But otherwise we enjoyed the stay.

  • It was a true joy and pleasure to stay at Billyville. Billy made us feel very welcome and was available to answer any questions we had. The house's location along the James and surrounded by gorgeous fields and a stunning barn made for a magical escape from the linearity of our lives in DC. We hope to return when the weather is warmer and look forward to seeing Billy! Thank you!

    Nathan2014-11-23T00:00:00Z
  • Billyville is a great place to get away from city noise and traffic. It's soooo peaceful there. There's plenty of everything to make your stay comfortable. The only thing I found on the negative side was that it needed to be thoroughly cleaned. I actually swept the floors and vacuumed the living room rug. I also straightened up all the books and videos so they're easier to read. Dusted all the furniture, so it should be in pretty good shape for the next visitor. Enjoy!

    Diane2017-05-14T00:00:00Z
  • We had such a great weekend at Billyville! We needed a quiet weekend away and got exactly that. We’ll definitely be going back again!

    Stephanie2017-11-19T00:00:00Z
  • Billyville was everything we needed and more! His home is spacious, clean, private, and quiet. Its perfect for a quick getaway to relax and be in nature. There are lovely views of the river as well as sunrises and sunsets all over the property. We definitely recommend exploring and seeing all it has to offer. Billy was such a gracious host- he took us up to another property of his and dropped us in the James so we could kayak back to the house. He even made us some delicious goulash for dinner! He was always just a text or call away if we needed anything. We really appreciated his kindness and enjoyed getting to talk to him during our stay. We can't wait to go back and hope to share it with friends the next time!

Gorgeous farm house in idyllic setting overlooking the James River; a true retreat where families and friends can gather and relax: pool (open mid/late May through September), hot tub, chef's kitchen. 5BR + sunroom with futon sleeps up to 12 comfortably with bed sharing. *This property is on the market.*
This charming home with modern updates and lovely furnishings has been our family's retreat for two decades. The location so far from city lights allows for an unparalleled night sky and 360 degree pastoral views all day. Quiet, private, and restful, a stay at River Circle is an experience you will treasure. The master bedroom downstairs has a queen bed and an attached full bathroom with double sink, tub and steam shower. The adjacent sunroom has a double futon and can share the master bath for showering and access the downstairs powder room via the living room door. Upstairs has four bedrooms: one double, one king with a small child's bed (antique) in the room, one queen, and a room with two twins. These four rooms share one bathroom. The kitchen is fully stocked for families/group meals: linens, utensils, dishes, flatware, stainless steel pots/pans, baking sheets, Dualit toaster, KitchenAid mixer, 10-cup coffee maker and separate espresso machine, microwave, two large refrigerators, two dishwashers, and a 4-burner Viking stove. It is truly a "chef's kitchen".
  • Our experience with our hosts and our stay at River Circle Farm were positive in every way. Communication was very timely and informative right from the beginning. The listing description and photographs were complete and accurate so that we felt immediately at home and at ease when we arrived. We enjoyed all our time on the lovely property, also making side trips to many points of interest in the area. River Circle Farm is a winning combination of desirable amenities and quiet countryside location.

    Catherine2015-07-26T00:00:00Z
  • We felt very welcome, the home was exactly as expected. Only trouble was trying to get one of the dishwashers to work

    Mary2015-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • This house did not disappoint! It was beautiful, comfortable and the kitchen was well stocked with the necessary tools. We found the location very relaxing. You are truly in the country!

    Cindy2014-09-21T00:00:00Z
  • I sort of hate to review this house, for fear that others will discover this gem of a place. it's that good, really! amazing location - completely isolated from other houses (you can see nothing but rolling hills), and yet only an hour from charlottesville. the house it FULL of character and has clearly been a well loved and very well looked after house. we had a family gathering of about 12 people - we were all more than comfortable and were all fantasizing about buying the house! we enjoyed the upstairs hot tub immensely and the extremely well kitted out kitchen. really really wonderful stay, we will come back as soon as we can!! THANK YOU!

    kristin2013-11-29T00:00:00Z
  • This home was a getaway dream. Nestled in the hills perched above the James River it offers complete relaxation and freedom to enjoy the country. The homes amenities provided us with the ease to cook great meals, sleep in comfort and enjoy the beautiful surroundings either in the rooftop hot-tub or the roman-style pool. There was plenty of seating and room for all our guests to gather indoors and out. The proximity to vineyards, breweries and adventures on the river make this the perfect weekend (or longer) getaway from the stress of the city. Just remember to hit the grocery store on your way! I would definitely recommend River Circle Farm to anyone!

    Sierra2014-07-29T00:00:00Z
  • What a quaint, quiet place to gather with family/friends. This house was perfect for our large family to get together. We all had a comfortable, private place to sleep and the circle room was perfect for conversations and board games. I recommend coming prepared so you don't have to leave- since the nearest grocery store is about 30 minutes away. What I would recommend bringing: Extra paper towels/toilet paper Seasonings/cooking supplies that you KNOW you'll want (to save money)- they have essential cooking supplies, if needed A throw (if you like having a blanket on the couch) Plenty of charcoal (if you are going to grill) A nonstick pan (I'm partial to nonstick cookware for easy cleanup, this would have been nice to have for eggs in the morning) A second coffee pot (if several people in your party drink coffee) Bug spray- Personal & Indoor/Outdoor(we encountered several wasps, ants, horseflies & stink bugs) We had an amazing trip!! Thank you sharing your home with us. We hope to be able to return.

    Jamie2017-06-13T00:00:00Z
  • This is a really big space and the pool was really fun. The kids enjoyed hanging out in the round room quite often. The hot tub was a bonus! Kitchen is equipped with two empty refrigerators (which is awesome) and there are quite a few spices/basic seasonings, which is always nice to have. Two dishwashers was another great bonus. It is an older house, so will have it's quirks.

    Kellie2017-07-03T00:00:00Z
  • My friends and I had a wonderful stay at River Circle. The house and grounds are beautiful, and it is ideal for anyone looking to relax. It is also in proximity to many local wineries. The host was very responsive and the home was well stocked with everything we needed to make our stay comfortable.

  • The house is lovely. The views are wonderful. The location is quiet, peaceful and rejuvenating. I loved seeing a deer walk by in the backyard just after I arrived. Igor is a wonderful host. I highly recommend staying here.

    Martha2017-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • The apartment is in a beautiful area - very quiet and secluded. It is gorgeous inside and very comfortable. The kitchen has everything you could need although we were only there overnight. It is also very spacious - the rooms are quite large. I found the space very calming. Igor was flexible in arranging to meet me a little later than my expected arrival as I was backpacking in the area and got off the trail later than I anticipated. There are good restaurants (possibly better than one might expect for the area ) in Scottsville about 25 minutes away. My friend and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay and may return for a longer weekend sometime in the future.

    Greg2016-10-23T00:00:00Z
  • It took a little while for us to find the place (Airbnb doesn't give the full address for some reason), but Igor was very communicative and met us with a smile. This is a first floor unit below Igor's second floor unit. The layout of the unit is great, with a wall full of windows overlooking the valley below, facing the sunset in the west. We spent an evening in nearby Scottsville, about a half hour away, and had a great time there as well. We brought our dog and she had a great time as well. Very clean, comfortable, and relaxing.

    Steven2016-10-22T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful location. Owner tries to make your stay very pleasant. Needs a few more items in kitchen to cook food other than that recommended.

    Carol2017-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • Igor was a very welcoming host and showed me the property, as well as explained everything there was to know about Yogaville and the neighborhood before and during my arrival(URL HIDDEN)The apartment was absolutely stunning with luxury accommodations and expansive views of the Blue Ridge mountains, James River, and LOTUS shrine. It was clean, well-maintained, and cozy. During my stay, I received a massage from Igor and then relaxed in the sauna steps away from my bedroom. The spa-like nature of the evening was rejuvenating. Igor is a talented massage therapist; I would recommend a session with him any day. My stay superseded all my expectations. I would recommend it to family and friends.

    Purnima2015-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time. Igor was very accommodating. We'll be back next time we're in Buckingham.

    Peter2015-05-19T00:00:00Z
  • First off, Igor is an amazing, accommodating host. His flat is spacious, clean, tasteful and well equipped. We had a great time hanging around the flat; enjoying breakfast and coffee on the patio with beautiful views. The location is great for hiking around the blue ridge as well. Would love to stay here again.

    Rhyne2017-10-22T00:00:00Z
  • Only great things to say about both the host and the location. Igor is super helpful and not intrusive, that can be a hard combination to accomplish. We had a late arrival (after midnight) and Igor was there to greet us. The lodge is great. Lot's of space, very clean, all the utensils etc. needed in a modern kitchen are there. The rooms are large and have great views. Big living room to relax in. The bath is also great. Lots of closet space. The location is superb if you like nature (I do). It is a winding drive at night but you get the opportunity to see lots of deer in the wild. I highly recommend staying at Igor's.

My home was built in 2014. The house is surrounded by trees and deer eat in the woods. Yogaville is a 5 minute walk. The room has a queen bed, private bath with a garden tub, and a walk in closet. The kitchen has brand new appliances.
My home is quiet. Set in the woods with well water. Your room has a queen bed, night stand and chest. It is carpeted. The attached bath has a wonderful garden tub with shower. The walk in closet is big. You will have access to free Wifi.
If you are coming here you either want to get away from it all or you are here to visit Yogaville, or the history of Virginia.
  • Rhonda is an easy going and friendly host. She made me feel welcome and was warm and welcoming. Her room and the private bathroom were clean and comfortable. I even used my high powered hair dryer without blowing any fuses! Thank you for the lovely stay.

    Fariba2015-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • Rhonda's place is my favorite place to stay when I go to Yogaville. It is within a short walk to the ashram. The bedroom is private, clean, and has a nice bathroom. The bed is very comfortable.

    Laura2017-04-30T00:00:00Z
  • Rhonda's is a wonderful person and a her house is great place to stay. The room was better than the pics and her house has a great vibe. You can't beAt the proximity to yogaville. Room was clean and very nice. Stay there if you have chance. I will again for sure. She is very communicative and makes you feel very welcome. Her cats are cool too.

    Jeffrey2016-11-20T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed at Rhonda's for a couple of nights because there were no private rooms available at the Yogaville ashram. Her place is conveniently located (almost) across the ashram. The room was large, clean, nicely decorated and with its own full size bathroom (with a very nice tub!). Rhonda was an excellent hostess and made me feel very welcome. For anyone visiting Yogaville, this is an excellent option if you'd like a nice, big private room.

    Vivian2016-11-12T00:00:00Z
  • Rhonda's place is conveniently located a short walk from Yogaville. Unfortunately during my stay the rain was coming down constantly and I had to drive there but no big deal because parking was available at the ashram. The room was very neat and clean and the bed is super comfortable.

    Paloma2017-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • Rhoda was a wonderful host! She was warm, helpful, welcoming and extremely patient with with all our questions. The room itself was beautiful, clean and spacious with a large walk in closet and an attached bathroom. We loved our stay here and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a comfortable off site stay at Yogaville.

    Sagar2017-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • This is an amazing room! The house is tucked back in the forest surrounding Yogaville. Very peaceful, quiet, and private. I would highly recommend Rhonda's place the next time you're down in the area for a visit.

    Dawn2017-06-25T00:00:00Z
  • Rhonda is a wonderful host - very friendly and welcoming. She was happy to have nice long chats with us about the area and life in general. Our visit to nearby Yogaville was made even better by her tips and advice. The house is beautiful, the room was large, comfortable and very clean. We had our own bathroom and a walk-in closet! The house is surrounded by forest which is uber-serene. We would highly recommend Rhonda's place for a chill getaway.

Peaceful, simple bedroom gets the morning sun. House is only 3/4 mile from Yogaville Ashram, so you can either walk or ride. Pet friendly -- your quiet and well-behaved pets welcome here.
If you would like to use the kitchen sometimes, I will clear off a space for you and also make some room in the refrigerator. You can have your morning coffee or tea out on the rear deck surrounded by woods, weather permitting.
The Yogaville area has a few lovely hiking trails, some running along the James River. A friend of mine has described them as "awesome". A map of the hiking trails is available.
  • Great location to Yogaville! Quiet, basic accommodations.

  • Great experience at Fiona's. She was responsive, helpful and generous. She provided clear directions for finding her home. And she was flexible and kind when my arrival plans changed last-minute. Fiona also showed me around Yogaville in her free time. I felt lucky to have stayed at her place.

    Joseph2016-08-29T00:00:00Z
  • Fiona has a lovely back porch deck. It is the perfect place to enjoy your morning breakfast. I loved sitting on the deck. It is relaxing and peaceful. Her place is spotless. She is a charming hostess. The bed and pillow are so comfortable you are guaranteed a restful night's sleep. You have your own bathroom. Fiona has a fan you can use in the room. She has air conditioning when it is warm. I enjoyed my time at Fiona's place. I will definitely return!

    Linda2017-07-10T00:00:00Z
  • Nothing fancy, but a super convenient location to Yogaville (on the same street). The hostess Fiona was very kind, accommodating, and welcoming. We even got to talk about the yogic tradition. If you are looking for a place to stay at Yogaville but can't stay in the dorms, this is a good option off campus.

    Leanna2016-08-08T00:00:00Z
  • House is a bit old, but is clean and well kept. The host is very accommodating, and replies quickly to emails and text messages. The house does not have a central AC system, or a window AC unit in the bedroom. However, I was able to keep myself cool at night with the fan that was provided in the room in the middle of July.

    Stephen2016-07-17T00:00:00Z
  • Small but adequate room in a trailer home very close to Yogaville. With furniture movement the room was converted from 1 bed to 2. The hostess is hospitable and has a nice selection of herb teas for the tasting.

  • Veronica was very understanding and helpful to our situation. We needed a quite, safe place where one could just be and this was it.

    Val2016-11-30T00:00:00Z
  • Although the host was not available upon arrival, she left us with some baked muffins and bread and breakfast items which was appreciated. The apartment was left unlocked for our arrival and we were never given a key. We felt safe however we would have preferred to have the option of locking the door when we left. The apartment is located around the corner from the Yogaville ashram.

    Pat2016-10-24T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful, peaceful space to decompress, and reconnect. I grew up in the woods, and Veronica's little apartment is nestled in a haven of nature. It's quiet, you have all you need and more. Veronica is very welcoming, very considerate, very kind and very communicative, all things I so appreciate.

Your stay will include the Main house and the Bunk House above the garage. This is a great place to have fun on the James River. Tubing, kayaking, fishing or just hanging out in the water catching some rays. Stay for the weekend or take a whole week and just get away from it all. Please understand the place includes all nature has to offer and more.
PLEASE keep glass bottles away from the river. Glass at the house is OK, but for me glass adds extra weight and makes carrying everything heavier. Sorry to say there is no Internet and cell phone service will work best with data turned off when at the house, but this place if for folks that wish to be outside and not worried about technology during your stay on the river. I have seen service work in the river before but keep your phone protected. Bring DVD movies to watch at night for the kids to relax, but really I think they wish to make smores and sit by the fire......that is what we enjoy. The Main House has central air and the bunk house has a floor AC unit.
The is a river retreat with a lot of open space and quite.
  • If you want a get off WiFi stop with nature as your music, this is the place for you! Perfect for relaxing by the river, bonfire and cute mountain towns and wineries all around!!

    Kelly2017-11-12T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you so much for this weekend! My friends and I had a great time, the house was really nice. It is indeed necessary to arrive there before it gets dark, but we did not encounter major issues. We cooked, relaxed, enjoyed tubing in the river and really really loved our getaway weekend away from the city, school work, service and wifi ;) Thanks again!!

    Clara2017-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • Nice place to stay.

    Heather2017-07-23T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay at the river house. It had plenty of space for 8 guests and the price can't be beat. Those with verizon actually had some service throughout the weekend!

    Caleb2017-07-30T00:00:00Z
  • The description of this property is dead on. My family of 6 stayed in May 2017 and loved it. The place was roomy enough for us. The beds were comfortable and had plenty of storage space for your belongings. Do bring all of your food, beverages and spices, print out the directions and skip your phones and laptops, no WiFi and spotty cell service. Bring your tents to camp by the river and your favorite music to play on a phone or ipod. Most of all enjoy nature, family and peace and quiet in this lovely place.

    Dawn2017-05-22T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great girls' weekend here! There was plenty of space for all five of us to enjoy time relaxing and playing games, both indoors and out. Sleeping arrangements were wonderful and the kitchen was perfectly stocked for our needs. We were happy for the chance to take a break from cell & wifi service - very peaceful. Thanks Cathy & Chris!

  • We had an amazing time at the Rustic River Retreat! The first night we spent the evening by the river enjoying the amazing campfire that was already set up for us. The next day we spent 5 hours floating the James River which was incredible! That evening was spent in the cabin due to a few thunderstorms, but it was a great time watching DVDs with friends in a cozy river cabin. We highly recommend this River Retreat and we will be staying there again in the future!

  • It's a great $ deal but bathrooms and kitchen are camp-like feeling (you get the bare essentials of a home). Good getaway for a large group looking to just crash around and immerse in nature. Nature dominates here.

My home is close to Satchidananda Ashram: 6/10 mile from the main building. You’ll love my place because of the coziness, wooded setting, and warm welcome. My space is good for solo adventurers.
The setting makes this home outstanding! I am in easy walking distance to the activities of the Satchidananda Ashram. It is set in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains and surrounded by trees and nature. It is compact and very functional for a long or short stay. The garden is serene and lovely place to read, rest or conversations. The pets here are very friendly and quiet.
The Mandala Cafe is a 7 minute walk away serving coffee and deserts and wifi.
  • Carolyn's home was perfect stay as it is centrally located in the ashram, warm and lovingly decorated and comfortable, and she is knowledgeable about the ashram and very active in the community. I had an incredible stay during a long weekend workshop thanks to her kindness and generosity.

    Amy2017-05-28T00:00:00Z
  • Carolyn is just dynamite—an excellent tour guide and generous host.

    Oriana2017-06-09T00:00:00Z
  • Carolyn's place is cozy, clean, and located in a beautiful wooded setting within a 10 minute walk from Yogaville, Ashram Satchadinanda. She made me feel welcome as soon as I walked in the door. During my stay she was a great host, and she is also a truly wise and kind person. Her little dog, Opie, was a delight. Even the outdoor cats welcomed me! If you want a comfortable, private place near Yogaville, this is it...and at a very reasonable price. I'll be back!

  • Clean, kind and comfortable

    Mick2017-10-15T00:00:00Z
  • Carolyn made Gretta (my dog) and me feel right at home. Our room was clean and cozy. We had access to everything we needed. The ashram is really close, as are multiple trails and wooded areas. Carolyn is, admittedly, in various stages of unpacking from a move. This didn't bother me in the least, but, if you are a person who needs order and a box free living space, you may want to inquire as to the status of this process. To me it was no problem. Gretta and Opi, Carolyn's dog, got along just fine, and I appreciated the fenced in garden area. The kitties were super sweet and loved attention. I felt included and welcomed in this wonderful community. I plan to return.

    Sue2016-10-16T00:00:00Z
  • Carolyn was very sweet and the location to the Ashram was great. I was a bit surprised to see the home was a trailer- now I know to ask! The home was rather cluttered (furniture stacked in the living room and a counter filled with various household items) and that was a bit disturbing to my senses. However the guest room and bath were very tidy and clean. I could not get the shower to work so I ended up taking baths and leaving it at that... Overall the space felt small and the creaky floors and doors made me feel self conscious walking around and waking early for yoga.

Our completely separate, private, and peaceful studio has what your looking for. The guesthouse has 2 beds, full bath, coffee station, microwave and fridge. The guesthouse is heated with a wood stove or central heat. The super cozy studio has access to the sunrise & set views, with a homestead (animals included) atmosphere. We offer easy guided kayak trips, hiking ideas & breakfast options for an additional fee available per request with enough notice.
Our place is close to family-friendly activities such as kayaking and hiking. If you'd like an adventure, book a gentle kayak float down the Rockfish River with Kim prior to your stay. The super cozy guesthouse has access to sunrise & set views, with small homestead atmosphere e.g. chickens, goats, and kitties and dogs. Bring your ear plugs if farm animals bother you in the morning. This is a restful place, but nature is alive here! For a small additional cost, eat our seasonal farm raised organic food which we will prepare breakfast for you. If we are out of our own farm raised food we will use locally grown food from other local farmers. Our wifi is the only downfall to rural living. HD videos can not be downloaded, nor streaming or you tube videos. Simple research works fine or you can always connect to your phones hotspot. KAYAK trips are not available July thru March
There really isn't a neighborhood. We live in a rural part of the county so the amazing stars are your neighbors at night and the trees during the day.
  • Wow! My first Airbnb stay was awesome!!!!! What a cool little guest house. We were greeted by Kim and her husband when we arrived! We had a great conversation with them and felt so welcomed. The whole space was so comfortable and I was so excited to be able to watch The Patriots game!!! Lol Will definitely stay there again if we return to Schuyler. Thanks for a great first Airbnb experience!

  • Best Airbnb EVER! The owners are SO NICE! Beautiful private place with fantastic art & an unforgettable atmosphere of pure nature. When you get there, the ambience of nature takes you away. You can just breath in and feel so much peace with yourself. That said, the place to off to the side and private. Got to play some music and chill out with great vibes after an awesome show. I won't forget this night, thanks so much!!

    Timothy 2017-05-21T00:00:00Z
  • I couldnt have asked for a more perfect place to stay. Kim and her family were so friendly and honestly just good people. Plus their home is gorgeous. We had everything we needed & more with the hot tub, fireplace, & a rooster to wake us up (much nicer than our phones...which were totally ignored unless we needed gps). The bed was so comfortable, you can see tons of stars and the farm was beautiful. Also, Aslan is the perfect animal (but the goats & chickens were great too). I will definitely be back. Thanks for an amazing vacation! P.s. it's only about 45 min from the wintergreen slopes and the drive is a stunner

    Andie2017-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • Everything about our short stay was great! This was an ideal space for my husband and I to rest up for our road trip. The place was very clean and comfortable. Kim was kind and communicative and prepared a lovely breakfast for us while we explored the homestead. They are a sweet family and their rural little piece of heaven was inspiring. I felt Kim and Greg were kindred spirits and we would definitely stay again.

    Cheryl2017-05-29T00:00:00Z
  • Jusr about the most relaxing place, ever. We were well taken care of, and the place was amazing, inside and out. I would recommend it to anyone needing a place to stay in the area. Really, the countryside is so beautiful that one wouldn't be sorry stopping there just to "get away from it all."

    Doris2017-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • A friend and I ended up staying at the Abundant Seed Guesthouse for a night recently and it has been my favorite airbnb experience thus far. Kim and her family were very welcoming and accommodating, and their guesthouse was beautiful - her husband is a craftsman and I loved the woodwork inside. The bed was incredibly comfortable as well. My traveling friend was making a documentary and we were fortunate enough to be able to connect deeper with our hosts and hear the story of how their farm and Abundant Seed Trade School came into being, which was an incredibly inspiring framework for collaborative community and connection. I look forward to connecting more with Kim and her family in the future and am grateful to have had the opportunity to stay at their guesthouse.

  • Ron and Gwen offer a beautiful, clean, spacious location off of the James. My husband and I were recently married on the James and utilized the Airbnb in hopes that it would offer some solace, much needed rest, and enough room to get ready for the big day. This Airbnb was much more than what we expected!! It is so spacious, quiet, and furnished lovely and comfortably. Ron and Gwen were accommodating, so friendly, and a pleasure to be around. I know that we will absolutely stay again in this fantastic apartment!

Our cozy home is located in Arrington, VA in beautiful Nelson County. We’re close (about 20-25 miles) to most breweries and wineries and only 7 minutes from the LOCKN’ Music Festival and Festy Experience. The Blue Mountain Barrel House is right down the road and a great place to grab a $2 pint on Tuesday afternoons! We're less than 2 miles from the Tye River and swimming holes. Enjoy the shaded yard and enjoy the stars from the large back deck of our sweet little home. Pets welcomed!
Nelson County is awesome. My house is located in a rural neighborhood in Arrington close (about 20-25 miles) to most breweries, wineries, Wintergreen Ski Resort, hiking, and music festivals. We're 30 miles from Lynchburg and 40 miles to Charlottesville. Please note: I live in the country. You will have to drive to enjoy the area's amenities. Just the nature of living in the country! We're in a rural neighborhood on an acre. The lot is very shady with a big backyard that backs to woods. The back deck spans the house and has a Webber grill. The front porch is screened and a nice place to enjoy coffee in the mornings. PLEASE NOTE: I do not have wifi or cable. I have Ntelos and get a couple of bars of 3G - enough to text and make calls. My boyfriend has Verizon and usually picks up a few bars of 3G and sometimes gets 4G in my living room. If you need high speed internet, there are several coffeeshop type places that offer free wifi. I can give you directions. :)
As I've mentioned, Nelson County is awesome. Please note: I live in the country. You will have to drive to enjoy the area's amenities. Just the nature of living in the country! :) Here are a few things to do: *LOCKN' Music Festival and The Festy - only 7 minutes down the road! *The Blue Mountain Barrel House - less than 5 miles down the road. On Tuesdays, you can get a pint for $2! They have music and a food truck on Fridays and Saturdays. *Tye River - 2 miles away. You can walk, bike, or drive to a great local swimming hole. *Collen Drive In (locally called "The Dairy Isle") - 4 miles away. You'll see the giant ice cream cone as you come down Rt 29. You can't miss it! Great soft serve, old fashioned shakes and malts, burgers, fries, etc. *Food Lion - nearest grocery store about 10 minutes away in Lovingston. *Devils Backbone - 20 miles. Beautiful drive over Brent's Gap. Award winning beer and restaurant now with an amazing outdoor space: fire pit, adirondack chairs, outdoor food and bar with plentiful seating. *Bold Rock Cidery - 20 miles. Great cider and beautiful scenery. *Virginia Distillery - 15 minutes away. The Virginia Whiskey Experience! *Wintergreen Resort - 25 miles to the top! *Crabtree Falls - 20 miles. Amazing hike and beautiful waterfalls. *Dickie Brothers Orchard - 14 miles. Pick your own apples, peaches, pumpkins, etc. *Seaman's Orchard - 9 miles. Apple Butter Makin' Festival every October. Apples, live music, food vendors, children's activities, crafters, pick your own pumpkins, corn maze. *Trager Brothers Coffee - 9 miles. Located on Main Street in Lovingston. You can grab a cup of coffee and watch them roast up beans! They converted a garage behind a historic home into the coffeeshop/roastery. This is seriously the best coffee. *Rapunzels - 9 miles. Local, quirky bookshop and music venue. Also located in downtown Lovingston. *Rockfish Valley Community Center (RVCC) - 20 miles. Local gathering place. The Treasure Chest, my favorite thriftshop, is located here. Trager Brothers has a coffeeshop here as well. Local artisans house their work at the RVCC, and you'll even find an incredible Rock Shop. A skate park, basketball court, playground, soccer field, and baseball field are in the back. Music festivals, cultural events, and a myriad of classes are always taking place. Check out the website for details. *Tons of other breweries, wineries and eateries along 151 including The Pig, Wild Wolf Brewery, Blue Mountain Brewery, Cardinal Point Winery, and Veritas Winery to name a few. *Lynchburg is only 30 minutes away and has a lovely downtown, great history museum, and beautiful walking trails along the river. Visit the White Hart Cafe for brunch and coffee. El Jefe Taqueria has amazing tacos and creative cocktails. *The Appalachian Trail picks up off of Rt 60 about 40 minutes away near Buena Vista. You can also pick up the trail in Roseland (close to Devil's Backbone) about 30 minutes away. *Charlottesville and all it has to offer is a straight shot down Rt29 about 45 minutes away.
  • Loved this Airbnb! Spent a much needed girl's weekend at April's cottage. The house itself was adorable and April was incredibly accommodating. We spent the day exploring Nelson 151 and were able to make it back to the cottage for a relaxing Saturday evening! Thanks!!

  • April was very nice. The floors in her home are beautiful. The home was close to my sister's wedding in Lowesville. Didn't spend much time there, but definitely wish we had been able to visit the swimming holes nearby. This place would have been a great place to stay if you are going to LOCKN.

    Brenan2017-04-30T00:00:00Z
  • There was a bit of a herb smell in the house but it wasn't noticeable for very long, I thought the house was solid and nice for the price...

    Clifford2017-07-16T00:00:00Z
  • Aprils place is comfortable, with nice bright wall colors, bonus little breakfast items, and almost every room has its own thermostat so you can make it comfortable as each person likes! We had little kids with us and they enjoyed the toys that were there. Places to eat are bar stools and higher bar chairs but the kids did really well sitting in those (1yr old up to 5yr old). There are a few smaller more delicate things you might want to move to higher places away from kids upon arriving bc you know how kids love to explore new things :) The back yard was nice for the kids and the back porch got lots of sun. The neighbors are also nice as we had a dead battery and they let us borrow jumper cables. Depending on your cell service you might have issues. At&t worked most of the time for calling but internet was about half the time depending on location in the house. But not a big deal at all for us. It was kind of nice not being so connected. April was very responsive and helpful.

  • Gavin's home was perfect for our 5 night stay during the Lock'n festival. Gavin was very accommodating, and responded almost instantly when we locked ourselves out of the house! ((URL HIDDEN) was also very heartwarming to be welcomed by sweet Olive (dog) every time we returned! 5 stars!

    Caroline2016-08-30T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful country home! I really enjoyed our stay in this super cozy hideaway. The room was very quaint on our private side of the house, really nice private amenities like a washer & dryer, stove & fridge that we didn't fully take advantage of. Olive is the most adorable dog, too. Gavin even found something we accidentally left behind and mailed it to us, an unexpected and incredibly appreciated generosity.

  • Lovely place in a wooded setting. Gavin (and Olive) made us feel very welcome and comfortable. The description and amenities are accurately listed, but what the listing fails to capture is Gavin's graciousness. We would stay here again in a heartbeat! As an aside, train tracks run nearby through the town of Shipman. It didn't bother us, but some guests may wish to bring earplugs just in case.

  • Gavin's place was in a great location if you're interested in hiking. He gave us detailed directions and the place was clean and comfortable.

  • Gavin was a great host, he had a great house and the bedroom is very nice with a big king size bed and he had everything available in the bathroom for you as well. Another great thing available was your own kitchen and sunroom to make breakfast and sit in the there with the sun shining in at all angles and he had pots and pans for making your own food which was a plus considering we forgot to bring that stuff. Overall he was a great host and you will really enjoy his place if your trying to get off the beaten path but still feel like you have all the necessities you need to feel comfortable!

    Jordan2017-09-04T00:00:00Z

  • What an amazing find! This is a beautiful and spacious home that could easily sleep two couples, plus three singles (or children), quite comfortably. My husband and I were blessed to enjoy the whole place to ourselves for two nights. The house was generously equipped with everything we needed, and the area is wonderfully peaceful and quiet. It was lovely meeting Debra and Roderick. They were cheerful, friendly, and welcoming. Debra suggested that we visit nearby Farmville during our stay. The only time we had available to do this was on Sunday, when most of the businesses are closed, but we were happy to find that Charley's Waterfront Cafe was open and serving brunch until 2pm on Sunday. The drive to Farmville was very pleasant and we are glad that we went. For travelers who are vegetarian or have dietary restrictions, the Mandala Cafe is a 35 minute drive away, at Yogaville. The cafe is a very small place, but they usually have non-dairy coconut ice cream, made-to-order smoothies, gluten-free snacks, kombucha, and more. I'd suggest calling the cafe if you are looking for something specific.

    Stacie 2014-05-27T00:00:00Z
  • Debra's home was a respite for our family. It was very clean and comfortable. Our only wish would have been to stay longer. We were in town for a baseball tournament and chose to stay here instead of a hotel. Boy, are we glad we did. She was great with communication and quickly responded. She was also flexible when we had changes to our reservation. We will be back!

  • If your looking for a clean, quiet, lovely home, then this one is for you. Your host, Debra, is wonderfully helpful and readily available for any assistance. This is beautiful location with a magnificent view! I would definitely rent again.

    Colleen2017-10-08T00:00:00Z
  • Debra was an outstanding host. Her home was a gem. Everything we needed was at the home. Debra was always available for questions. The pictures do not do this home justice. It is beautiful inside and out. My family loved the animals, mountain views and quiet. The home is open, decorated beautifully, has comfy furniture, but most of all it is super super clean! I highly recommend the Buckingham House.

    Stephen2014-05-12T00:00:00Z
  • We could not have found a better home-base for the Appomattox Sesquicentennial!! Debra was fantastic to work with, from booking to coordinating our check-in upon arrival, she was always prompt, friendly and most helpful. And the house was just perfect. The bed was sooo comfortable, the kitchen had everything we could possibly need, and the front porch was heavenly! After being in the crowds and excitement at the Appomattox 150th, it was great to come "home" and watch the sunset over the farm fields. And having the cows greet us upon our return made it even better! We will treasure our fond memories of our time at the Buckingham House. It will definitely be our first choice as the ideal spot for our next visit to the area civil war sites!
