  • Lovely clean house in a beautiful setting

  • We had a lovely short break in Northumberland and felt very welcome in Tower Hill Cottage. Our en-suite room was so comfortable and gave us good nights' sleeps after walking in the hills and on the lovely beaches. Would thoroughly recommend a stay here in Wooler.

  • Rosemary is the PERFECT host! She is a very welcoming person and we had great conversations, and she even gave me a ride to the coast when I wanted to travel on on a Sunday only to find out that no busses were driving that day! Her home is a beautiful old, comfy house which is in top state, and the room where I stayed was wonderful and had an en-suite bathroom. Everything was spotlessly clean and tastefully arranged. For walks into the Cheviot Hills, Wooler is a great base, and I can only recommend staying at Rosemary's place whole-heartedly!

    Katja2017-06-18T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful place to stay and the host was very welcoming, nothing was too much trouble and the facilities were above and beyond what We were expecting. It's a really good base for visiting north Northumberland and the bed is of a very high quality and super comfy. Would definitely stay here again.

  • Really good value for money. Rosemary is an excellent hostess, very welcoming and hospitable.

    Hazel2017-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • Fabulous! Beautifully decorated - lounge was stunning (dream home!) Rosemary was welcoming, warm and chatty host giving us advice about where to eat in the local area. This b&b is right on St Cuthberts Way (long distance trail) and 3 mins walk to shops/pubs/public transport. Location couldnt have been better. The dog (butch) is very friendly and enjoys attention from guests. Enjoyed chatting with other guests over breakfast. 100% recommend!

  • Rosemary has a lovely house with lots of character and a very friendly dog. Communication with Rosemary was very easy and she made us feel very welcome, without being too fussy. The road is very quiet yet it's extremely close to the centre of town. Wooler makes a good base for exploring Northumberland and has a number of options for eating out in the evening. Highly recommended.

  • Nice, large room with a very comfortable bed. Bathroom amenities all there and all modern. The biggest problem for me was that the room had no blinds, so light came in through the two large Velux windows early in the morning. There is also a grandfather clock downstairs which chimes all night and can be heard throughout the house, which also woke me up a couple of times. Generally, though, a good stay.

Our cottage is a lovely detached home for couples or families looking for a peaceful getaway that still offers a range of good amenities. Wooler is an idyllic village in picturesque Northumberland and provides the gateway to the Cheviot Hills. It offers beautiful surroundings; great walks, sandy beaches, stunning castles and much more are all on the doorstep. Off street parking nearby. Sleeps 4 adults comfortably. Please note that bathroom is downstairs.
The house is in an ideal position as it is on the St Cuthbert's Way which leads up to the Cheviot hills and is part of the Pennine Way. It is centrally located so that the shops are just around the corner but benefits from being on the main lane leading up to Wooler Common. Great for dog walking and to observe nature. The atmospheric Holy Island (Lindisfarne) is only half an hour away by car. Alnwick Castle (home of Harry Potter!) and Banburgh Castle (with its stunning beaches) are 25 minutes away by car. Chillingham Castle is just 11 minutes away! The beautiful town of Rothbury with nearby Cragside House and Gardens are less than half an hour away. Beadnell, with its fantastic water sports, Seahouses with boat trips out to the Farne Islands, Kelso or Berwick upon Tweed on the Scottish border are all just are just 30 minutes away by car. Of course, if you are visiting to enjoy the walks, you will be spoilt for choice with access to Northumberland National Park and all it has to offer. Wooler really is a central location for exploring the sights of Northumberland whether by car or by foot.
Wooler is a small but bustling market town known for its antiques shops. It has a range of cafes, pubs, restaurants/takeaways, banks with cashpoints, post office, pharmacy and a good range of independent retailers. There are great farm food shops selling local produce as well as a well stocked Co-op. There is also a great Tourist Information Centre, library and medical centre.
  • Joanna was very helpful and responded really quickly to any queries. The cottage was perfect for us very centrally placed to see all the lovely castles nearby and very near the shops for food etc. The house was well equipped with everything we needed. We wished we had stayed longer.

  • Great value for money cottage just 100 yards from the main street in Wooler. The cottage was very clean, quiet (apart from our dog) and had all the amenities we could possible require for our stay. This place is ideal for dog owners, as the garden is fenced off and Joanna very kindly provides a dog bed.

    Chris2017-06-04T00:00:00Z
  • This is a fantastic base for exploring Northumberland. Although there is no car parking outside the property, there is space in a small car park very close by.

  • A fantastic location, especially as you are only a short drive to Bamburgh and Seahouses and the superb beaches. A really quiet spot, a very high standard throughout the house.....we honestly couldn't fault it, we really didn't want to leave! Lots and lots of space for the six of us, a nice garden for the kids to play in. Would love to stay in the winter with that big stove going and the snow and wildlife literally on your doorstep. Thank you Jonathan and Fran!

Really well equipped with everything you could need, lovely little outdoor seating area with the most stunning views, an incredibly comfy bed and lots to see and do in the surrounding area. The cottage has hundreds of little homely touches that put it well above other holiday homes. Could not recommend it more highly! Thank you very much Jane and hope to be back one day!

    Harriet2017-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful cottage in a very peaceful location. Easy to access from the A1 with plenty to explore in the local area. The cottage is fantastically equipped and was a perfect home away from home.

    Amanda2017-04-16T00:00:00Z
  • Very quiet and peaceful location. Loved exploring the coast from Holy Island to Amble and Harthope valley in Cheviots nearby. The booking process was quick and simple to check in/out. The house is comfortable, with modern kitchen and bathroom. Robson Green's DVD about Northumberland is highly recommended! Visited Chillingham castle but didn't have time to explore the garden and grounds, which looked nice.

    Maria2017-06-26T00:00:00Z
  • Set to the backdrop of the Cheviots, this cottage provided an escape to the country for a relaxing long weekend. Thanks to our host for thinking of everything and for opening her home to us. It was all spotlessly clean and everything was of a high standard. Found the bed comfy. We even enjoyed early evening in the garden, in some autumnal sunshine! The area offered lots to see and do too. Thank you.

    John2017-09-11T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay in such a lovely cottage which looked exactly like the pictures. It was a peaceful location not far from Alnwick and surrounding towns. Chillingham castle was our favourite which was just up the road from the cottage. The views from the cottage were beautiful. You could enjoy them in the garden. I would definitely recommend staying there to family and friends.

  • This place is superb +++ well situated ,quiet ,great walks around the place and fantastic cosy accommodation . Closest shop is at wooler only 2 miles away - cottage is clean and lovely and shower is v good always useful when been out walking ! Could not fault Richards and Pams hospitality and his food recommendations were spot on for Milan and the Percy Arms at Chatton.

  • Beautiful cottage. Very cosy and bigger than the pictures suggest. Great enclosed garden with seating area and our two boys (3 &8) had an amazing time exploring the grounds as well as the little forest path from the garden. As for location, it really couldn't be better, about 20-30mins from just about anywhere you could wish to visit. Can't wait to return.

    peter2017-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • This was a fantastic place for our family. The cabin is cosy and well laid out, the kitchen is well equipped, the wireless is reliable, and the private garden and access to the woods are wonderful. We saw pheasants and hawks in the garden everyday. It is also well located for access to Northumbria's castles and hikes. It is a short drive to services - the only thing walkable is nature, which was perfect for us. Richard was also very helpful giving us lots of tips, telling us some local history, and engaging with our kids in a warm and friendly way. We are already plotting a way to get back.

    Ryan2017-04-21T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is very comfortable, warm, cosy and clean. We had a brilliant time exploring north Northumberland from the cottage, with our dogs too! It is a short drive to the sea and the Cheviots, so in one day you can swim in the sea with Bamburgh castle as your backdrop, and climb majestic Cheviot (we did both and it was a memorable day). Richard couldn't be more welcoming and helpful. Nothing seemed too much trouble had we needed him. I will definitely find a reason to return. Thank you

    Rose2017-03-26T00:00:00Z
  • Ever booked self-catering accommodation that was a bit of a let-down when you got there? Yeah, me too...several in fact. Fowberry, on the other hand, was absolutely exceptional! As all the other reviews tell you, this is a truly lovely cottage, cosy but spacious and beautifully decorated in traditional style. Pam and Richard go out of their way to make sure their guests feel welcome and we felt at home straight away. Pam showed us around the estate grounds that were 'ours' for the week - WOW! Early morning strolls, what a great way to start the day! This was our first visit to Northumberland and the weather was fabulous! Our only regret was that it was such a short trip. There is so much to see and do close at hand, with good roads making it easy to get around. There's a supermarket in Wooler if you need supplies - nothing close by the cottage. Richard provided a list of places to eat out in the local area. Thanks, Richard and Pam, for a great few days. We're looking forward to a longer visit next time!

    Wendy2017-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • Well-appointed, character cottage adjoining the private Fowberry Tower estate. Richard was the perfect host - welcoming, friendly and informative, and unintrusive. It was a privilege to stay here and have access to the amazing private grounds of Fowberry Tower for secluded walks from the door. Loads of terrific wildlife, especially birds, which can be enjoyed even from the house / garden. We didn't turn on the TV once! Note that the location is very secluded / quiet, with no real amenities as such within walking distance. Best to come well supplied with goodies, and then just revel in the surroundings. Highly recommended.

    Philip2017-05-24T00:00:00Z
  • We made a new friend while staying at Fowberry cottage . A red squirrel we named Ferris who came to visit us most days. On one fine day we spread our picnic on the lawns of Fowberry Towers and had the whole place to ourselves feeling like extras in a period drama.A beautiful relaxing and secluded spot. We all had a lovely time and would highly recommend this comfortable and cosy cottage . Our host Richard made sure we had everything we needed and showed us around the extensive grounds that were our domain for our holiday . Northumberland is stunning and every drive from the cottage a joy . Thank you very much

    Neil2017-06-24T00:00:00Z
  • Met on arrival by Pam with a generous welcome pack and a tour of the cottage and the extensive estate, followed by a chat with Richard the following day, very personal attention. Cottage is well equipped with a lovely fire to enjoy after a chilly day, and the estate is great for walks, with deer and red squirrel spotting. A perfect location for exploring the Northumberland coast, our only regret was that we didn't stay longer.

  • Spacious and comfortable cottage. Lovely peaceful location with an amazing pub - the food at the Percy Arms was first class we were in Chatton for 3 nights and ate there twice can recommend highly. Best to book as it gets very busy even on week nights. Loved this area of Northumberland - Alnwick Castle and Gardens, the Holy Island and the Serenity boat trips from Seahouses were all highlights of our stay. Mobile and internet signal in the village is poor to non-existent but we would definitely return. Maria was very helpful and quick to reply to any questions we had.

  • Great Base for Northumberland coast. Really clean everything you needed in a holiday cottage. Awesome pub within staggering distance which also serves delicious food.

  • We loved our stay in the cottage. If anything the description does not do the place justice; it is set in a quiet village containing a pub, a local shop and a church. Ideal location to explore the beautiful coastline, castles, islands etc. Wise to book a table at the pub/restaurant in advance. Comfy bed and living room, with well equipped kitchen and plenty of space inside and a nice rear garden. Adding a washing machine would make it absolutely perfect for a longer stay. Did not actually meet Maria, but she was very attentive to a small problem we had with the hot water and has an army of local help at hand! We would not hesitate to re-book.

  • A lovely spacious cottage in a quiet village on the edge of the Cheviot Hills. The village had the advantage of being in easy reach of the coast too, and there was a small shop, a pub/restaurant there too which is unusual in such a small, quiet village. Cheaper to stay here than on the coast, and nicer too as it allowed access to the Cheviots and the sea.

  • A lovely little cottage situated in a beautiful village with a good gastro-pub. In a perfect location for easy access to Bamburgh, Seahouses and Holy Island to name a few. We didn't meet Maria but she was quick to answer any queries. A very enjoyable holiday and we hope to visit again soon!

My centrally heated stone cottage with 2 bedrooms each with double bed, and 1 foldup bed, is 10 mins walk from Cheviot hills in Northumberland National Park. Near Newcastle or Edinburgh airports, it's in a Borders village with all amenities.
Accessible from 2 major cities but right in the country with hill and coastal walks and castles in abundance. Northumberland and Scottish coasts 10-15 miles away are ideal for walks, birdwatching sailing etc.
I love the quiet, but also the friendliness of the neighbours. You can walk for hours in the hills without meeting anyone, but you can be in Newcastle in less than an hour, or Edinburgh in 1 1/4 hours. This is one of the most underpopulated areas in the country.
  • Barbara's house was lovely - very quiet and cosy. Our stay was short but we lacked for nothing, and the neighbours were kind as well. There was lots of information on things to see in the area, and ordnance survey maps to consult, for which we were grateful. Yeavering (Anglo-Saxon kingdom of Ad Gefrin) and Kirknewton (St Gregory's) are places nearby which we discovered as the sun was setting. It was also a beautiful drive from Alnwick to Wooler across the Alnwick Moor.

  • Nice place in good area, some lovely walks and we did a trip to Edinburgh, cottage has everything needed for a pleasant few days away

    michael2017-04-07T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely time in Barbara's house. The beds were very comfortable. The kitchen was well equipt and the key pick up was straight forward. Parking over the road was convenient.

    Hannah2016-04-02T00:00:00Z
  • Barbara's place is perfectly placed to enjoy Northumberland and beyond if you'd like. Wooler is a great base with all you could need on the doorstep. The house is well equipped with maps and information as well as pretty much all you might need in terms of kitchen stuff, hairdryer, tv/dvd/cd/radio, central heating, etc. It has a beautiful little garden at the back and friendly neighbours on both sides!

    Catherine2017-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • Nice place to stay with great access to the coast and Cheviots

    Rich2017-05-31T00:00:00Z
  • The house is in a nice area, with good parking, and was well equipped and warm, nice bedrooms, lots of maps and guide books, and all as described in the notes for the property. While I never met Barbara her communications were excellent, and she organised everything very well. It's was a great place to enjoy the area and get away from it all, and very easy to get to all the locations on the coast.

    tim2016-05-23T00:00:00Z
  • We loved the little cottage and the neigbourhood. The rooms were tidy and the beds were heavenly. If you want a quiet vacation with a great area to hike and very friendly people, you should come to wooler!

    Anne2016-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • Good location for town centre and great for exploring the vast array of walks in the area, some right on the doorstep.

  • Lovely little cottage just outside of wooler. The cottage was small but cosy, the perfect home from home for me, my partner and dog. It's very peaceful and quiet and though the cottage is out of the way a little we were just a ten minute drive from Wooler. We drove to Alnwick one day which only took us half an hour and another day we drove up to Kelso on the Scottish boarders which took us about 40 minutes so it's a great base for exploring lots if other places. Maria was very easy to contact and helpful. Would definitely stay here again! Highly recommended! :)

  • Meg Cottage was a wonderful base from which to explore the country parks, coastline and castles of Northumberland. The village is beautiful and quiet. The layout of the cottage works well for a family or small group staying together. Maria gave us space to enjoy the holiday but was on hand if needed.

  • This was our base for a few days spent fly fishing at the outstanding Chatton fishery just around the corner, no more than 5 minutes in the car. Comfortable accommodation, plenty of room, decent kitchen and a shower that works along with comfortable rooms. It is also easy to reach the excellent Percy Arms pub for top food & beer. This is a great place to stay for all manner of outdoor activities but as we are fly fishers we would like to highly recommend it to anyone visiting to fish the area ... especially the Chatton lakes. 5****

  • This cottage is definitely a commercial let and so has only basic kitchen equipment and the twin room velux does not have a blind which is tricky when children are in there. Saying that, the location is excellent for visiting the area and the pub in the village serves great meals. Value for money.. just needs some touches sorting out.

  • Chatton cottage is perfect for exploring all the beautiful areas near by ,it is more suitable for a family than for friends sharing as there is no door between one of the bedrooms and the bathroom.

  • Conifer Cottage was exactly what we were looking for, somewhere out in the countryside, but not too far away from civilization. Set on high ground the cottage and the sitting area afford magnificent views of the Cheviot Hills and the surrounding area. Although the decor was slightly "old fashioned", the cottage was very well equipped with everything we needed for our stay, and had a lot more character than some of the modern places that we have stayed in. The beds were very comfortable and there was always plenty hot water whenever we needed it. The complementary eggs, milk and bread that awaited us were very welcome. One of the highlights for us was to be able to sit in the lounge looking out into the field across the road, watching two Little Owls flying about and sunning themselves. Jane was very prompt to respond to queries prior to our arrival and called in on us once we'd arrived to check that everything was ok. I would certainly recommend Conifer Cottage to anyone looking for a base to explore the Cheviots and the north Northumberland coast.

  • This is a spacious homely cottage in a lovely rural location. There is a private secure garden with beautiful pastoral views.

  • A rural retreat close enough for trips to Bamburgh and Alnwick. We had cold weather so had the chance to light the fire. The milk, eggs and croissants were also lovely touch

  • We did not meet Jane the host! We loved the surrounding area - really quiet and very beautiful! The kitchen is quite awkwardly shaped. Some of the beds were less comfortable than others. We liked the real fire option! We would stay there again and appreciate the no wifi world!

    Amanda2016-09-25T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely place to make your base for a holiday in Northumbria. No amenities within walking distance so be prepared to drive. Cottage has ample space for 6 people. We also had a baby & there was room for a travel cot in the main bedroom.

    Jo2017-05-01T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at Conifer Cottage was perfect. The place itself is clean and well equipped with everything we needed to be comfortable. We loved the peace and quiet and the beautiful surroundings. It was a delight to sit in the garden and watch the sun set in the distance. The location is great for seeing both inland and the coast. Next time we stay we will see and do more, but we explored Ross Back Sands, Bamburgh and Wooler this time. Stunning. I don't think there's anything that could really improve the cottage as it fulfilled all our needs and was great value for money. Thanks!
