“The famous Papperla Pub has become something of an institution in Zermatt. The team and patrons are a very international crowd, and regular live music adds to the perpetual party atmosphere. Come in after a day on the slopes for a mug of steaming hot Glühwein (mulled wine), or Jägertee (strong rum punch). Although the most iconic images of Papperla Pub show visitors’ skis lined up in the snow around the walls of the pub, the place is also open in the summer, when you can enjoy its warm hospitality al fresco. Restaurant
“Chez Vrony, at 2130 metres in Findeln above Zermatt, is one of the few restaurants still serving organic home produce from livestock raised solely on alpine grass. The dried beef, homemade sausage and alpine cheeses are based on traditional recipes, handed down over generations. Enjoy a warm welcome, genuine hospitality, a breathtaking view of the Matterhorn, and time to yourself – that is what Chez Vrony offers. From a small, sparsely furnished mountain farmhouse to a multiple-award-winning culinary venue, the restaurant embodies the living history of a Zermatt family going back 100 years. “A handsome old mountain hut below the Rothorn, Fluhalp has a warren of cosy little wood-panelled rooms. Soups, pastas and salads – including a great tagliatelle – come in satisfying portions at reasonable prices, and the large terrace has a view of the most perfect aspect of the Matterhorn.”

“A basement restaurant in the Hotel Alex on Bodmenstrasse. The garish stained glass mountain scenes on the walls and paisley upholstered chairs with gold frames may not be to everyone's taste, but you can't argue with the quality of the food at Hotel Alex Grill. It's rich, delicious and occasionally eccentric – there's white wine soup with dried meat; duck breast with pumpkin-mango chutney and sweet potatoes; icy Läckerli mousse, coffee ice cream and sauce of vanilla from Tahiti; plus a great range of Swiss steaks.
