Food scene

The fruit and veg at Great Park Farm is fresh and generally local. Also has a good deli counter, chutneys, jams, cakes and some meat. Plus pies, bread etc. Really great cafe with delicious cakes. Plus a plant nursery to browse.

Food here is reliably great. The welcome is genuine and the wine carefully chosen. My favourite local restaurant.

Don't miss

Cooden Beach

Shingle beach 20-30 minutes drive from the yurts. Park at the Cooden Beach Hotel or just on the edge of the single track road running down the side of the hotel. This beach is much quieter than Hastings or St Leonard’s and parking is free. At some tides and some times of year there is a strong current - watch out for it if you have young children.
Don't miss

Battle Bonfire

Bonfire societies in this part of the world vie to have the best parade and bonfire night celebration. People dress up. Bonfire societies parade with drums. Music is played. It’s a wild night of revelry. Battle, Hastings and Lewes bonfire are all great. There is a bonfire season, and each local town or village gets a slot, so Battle’s bonfire isn’t necessarily on Bonfire Night. Check this year’s schedule online.
