A leisure treat

A small local swimming pool in about 15 - 30 minutes drive from Birkiholt cosy cabin. You follow the summerhouse road back to the gate, and then to the Glymur hotel, and down the hill, then turn left and drive for 1 minutes to turn left again up to the swimming pool. There is an outdoor pool and hot tubs as well as sauna. You could walk from the summerhouse. Either you would go over the hill following the gravel road up the hill and then turn left over the hill coming to where the summerhouse road gate is as well as the trash containers are. You could as well go down the hill from the summerhouse , and follow the road back coming to the same area that way. From there you will follow the road as well similar as if on a car. Your walk would take up to an hour on a slow walk

A hiking tour nearby

This is about 20 minutes drive from the cabin in to the Hvalfjordur fjord. This is a fairly easy hike for anyone on a good day. The weather is always a factor to be aware of and when at the top, wanting to check the view down the waterfall, the cliff is dangerous if gone too near the edge of the cliff.

City advice

What to pack

Bring outdoor clothing and good hiking shoes.

The surroundings invite you for a treasure of a hiking paths up the hill for a great scenic view over the Hvallfjordur fjord and towards Reykjavik. You can follow a gravel road up to the hill, and then on top of the hill over to where the summerhouse road begins on the other side. You can as well follow the summerhouse gravel road network down the hill and back if you choose so.
Travelling with kids

A small playground for kids nearby

A small playground for kids is just down the road from the Birkiholt cosy cabin, near the next summerhouse that is the next one to Birkiholt. As well there is a small kids house on the land, just 10 meters up from the Birkiholt, where a kid can play "real" inviting parents for dinner. In summer there is a small water stream just 40 meters down against the Birkiholt, walking from the parking place straight out vest.
Getting around

In WINTER, the road might be closed / Walk.

In winter, the weather might be a hurdle. If there has been snowing before your arrival, the summerhouse road might be either closed or not accessible for small and big cars as well. Then you might have to walk from the gate with your belongings. The walk from the gate would be up to 30 - 40 minutes depending on the weather situation. There is a chance as well that you where able to drive half of the way and then have to walk the last part up the hill from where you would park the car. As we have a 4x4 car on 35" tires we might be able to help ;)
