Food scene

Located in Henniker, they have the best real milkshakes around - we highly recommend Moose Tracks. They also have great sandwiches, pizza, calzones, salads. Definitely my favorite. https://www.sonnyshenniker.com/

You'll want to stop at Shaw's on your way to the lake house to make sure you have your groceries, and anything else you need. This is a really large store with food, bakery, deli, medical, and lots more. From Shaw's, you are about 25 minutes to the lake house.

Super fun place to take little ones as you can feed the ducks, pet some of their animals and basically walk around a working farm. They also have a self serve food stand where you can buy local ice cream, fresh milk and dairy, and beef. Well worth the short trip to the farm.

In Henniker, there is a stone bridge that crosses over the Contoocook River which is right at the base of New England College. There is also a lovely short walk along the river on the town side (not the college side) that goes through the woods and comes out at the covered bridge you can see from the stone bridge. It's really pretty, easy short 15 minute walk. Great for burning off the milkshake you drank at Sonny's.

Within 15 minutes of the house, Pillsbury is a great park for walking, riding your bike, or paddling around their lake. It is very relaxing and a lovely place to spend an afternoon.
