City advice

Getting around

How to get around!

There are three ways to get around. Walking, biking, and horse drawn taxis! We have bicycles available to rent on site. $30 per bike for your entire stay. Message Danielle if you’re interested in renting bikes. The taxi runs 24/7 and the cost is $10 per person. You cannot “hail” a taxi here. You will need to call them. Simply tell them “Applewood Condos” when getting picked up or dropped off at the condo, they do not need an exact address. Don’t forget to tip the driver!

Tipping

Please be aware that the taxi drivers, dock porters, and anyone else who may help you during your stay works for tips.
What to pack

Be prepared

Michigan is known for having unpredictable weather. A few things I suggest are light jacket/wind breaker/rain jacket is always a good idea. Even in the hottest months we can see a rainy day. An umbrella is also handy to have! Walking shoes are a must! You will probably do a lot of walking while you’re on the island. A water bottle is also great to bring. We have amazing drinking water here! If you plan on going to the Grand for dinner or dancing, please know that they do have a dress code enforced after 6pm. If you plan on swimming in the lake, bring water shoes as our lake shore is rocky.
Customs and culture

Horses are King

Please remember that just because there are no cars, it doesn’t mean there aren’t any rules. Horses have the right of way. They can not stop on a dime. Please keep to sidewalks and the side of the roads when walking. Stay on the right side of the road while biking and stay alert and aware of your surroundings while riding around!
