Neighbourhoods

This is a very special spiritual place. Quiet times tend to be early morning when the tide comes in around midday or in the evening but castle and Abby are closed then.

On the other side of the estuary is Tweed mouth and Spittal. Tweedmouth is interesting for its history and historic houses. The beach at Spittle is long and sandy with donkey rides and sports. It has large waves and a great walk to Cocklawburn beach ( quieter than Berwick).

Bamburgh castle is well worth a visit. The castle is spectacular rising above the dunes and a long sandy beach. The Coffee Shops and cafes are generally very good and you can see for free the Grace Darling museum

There are three Abbeys I recommend Dryborough Melrose and Jedburgh. Melrose is impressive and within and interesting town. The area around Dryborough is rural by the river. An in interesting place and it is wonderfully quiet and Spiritual. Kelso is embedded in the Main Street.

Sightseeing

I recommend a boat trip from Seahouses to the Farne Islands. Wonderful views of puffins, shags, razorbills and kittiwakes in May and June as well as other birds. Beautiful views and stories.

St Abbs is a very old harbour which has been used in recent films. Dolphins are often seen from here and there are lovely cafes overlooking the harbour. A beautiful short cliff walk from Coldingham Bay and lunch at St Albs before walking back is highly recommended. St Albs charges parking . Coldingham Bay does not. You can also take a ride on a rib from here.
