High Country Favorites

Take some time to enjoy some of the most fun things the High Country has to offer. These are fun for the whole family.
If you’re looking for a theme park built for the mountains, then you’ve come to the right spot. This place has been around for as long as I have…and I have the family photos to prove it. While you’re there don’t miss the train ride, complete with surprise stops with appearances by the local cowboys and their arch nemesis.

By far the closest attraction, the Blowing Rock is almost directly across hwy 321. This is the rock that the town of Blowing Rock is named after. Take your turn to stand on the precipice and do your best to resist the urge to hold up your first born and yell "Nants ingonyama bagithi baba"

If you have school age children that still love play grounds, then the Blowing Rock City Park is a must do while you’re in the area. We fancy ourselves a good game of tag and there isn’t a better place in the High Country than this park to do that. One huge plus…its free! While you’re there, make sure that you check out the pool if you’re here in the summer time.

Located only 5.8 miles from our place, App Ski Mtn is North Carolinas second oldest ski resort, second only to Catalochee over in Maggie Valley. Whether you’re ice skating, riding the park or skiing the mountain…App Ski Mtn has something for everyone in your group.

Family owned and operated, WRAC is the first alpine coaster in North Carolina! The track’s length of 3,160 feet includes three circular loops (you do not go upside down), a series of waves and several twists and turns for plenty of excitement. Fun for all ages, this thrill ride reaches up to 27 mph at the control of the rider.

Sugar is arguably the best skiing and snowboarding in North Carolina and absolutely has the longest trail from the top of the mountain o the bottom. While it is further (18mi) than App Ski Mtn (5.8mi), if you’re looking for more technical trails with greater difficulty, then Sugar would be a good option. In addition to skiing and snow boarding, Sugar Mountain also offers tubing, ice skating and a number of other activities for those in your group that may be less inclined to hit the slopes.
