Food Scene

If you're in the southern beaches (St. Pete, Treasure Island, etc. about 40 minutes south), this is a good little place right on the sand to get fries and a sandwich.

I love that you can eat at an outside patio AND swim in a pool! They also have a jacuzzi, but I believe it's more like a kiddie pool, since it's not heated. 10 minutes north of my Airbnbs.

5 minutes away in downtown Dunedin. Best coffee in Dunedin, in my opinion. It tastes smooth and is fair trade and organic. From their food choices (sweet and savory, some organic, gluten-free options) to their 2 tables outside, to their beautiful decor, this is my go-to place for a latte or a cappuccino.

5 minutes away in downtown Dunedin, 1 block from the pier. A 1920's bungalow with wrap-around porch just a block from the Dunedin marina, and surrounded by fun shops. They have quality standards for their seafood, and they also have a delish flourless chocolate torte! There's live music that makes it more fun, but volume is never too loud, so it's relaxing. And it's dog-friendly on the porch!

5 minutes away in downtown Dunedin. Relaxing and romantic. This place has a large patio with soft lighting, and inside there are tables and sofas, and live music. Very good food, very good service. In the heart of downtown Dunedin, on Main Street.

Everything Else

This is a paved trail is just 3 blocks from my Airbnbs! Cycle to downtown Dunedin, with boutiques, cafes & restaurants, or to Honeymoon Island, or south to downtown Clearwater. There are several restaurants and cafes on the trail in downtown Dunedin, where you can lock up your bike, or park it near you (Lane's Lemonade, HOB Brewing Co, Lucky Lobster restaurant, Cafe Alfresco, 9th Bar Coffe Co, Kafe Racer, Scone Age Bakery and Cafe, Eli's Barbeque).

Sightseeing

St. Pete is a 40-minute drive south and there's lots to see, so spend the whole day there. If you like nature, birds of prey and alligators, spend a couple hours at Boyd Hill Nature Preserve, and the rest of the day visiting Beach Drive, with its many restaurants, cafes, boutiques, and St. Pete Pier, which was voted no. 2 of the Top Ten New Attractions of 2020 by USA Today. There are some great museums, too: the Dali, the James Museum (world class), plus the Holocaust Museum and a few others.

My go-to beach, because it's the closest, it's beautiful, and just a 10-minute drive when there's little traffic. Parking is about $3.50/hour, but there are places where you pay a flat fee for the day, like the parking lot across from the back side of the Hyatt. There are tons of eateries (Post Corner Restaurant, Frenchy's, etc.), a beautiful paved promenade along the beach, local vendors and performance artists, a playground, sometimes bouncy houses, and fun shopping, like Surf Style, which has clothing, souvenirs, a little grocery store, and indoor surfing!

In Clearwater Beach. These people have the best boat for viewing dolphins, as it's low on the water and the back is open. They're also super easy to work with: reserve online or by phone at (727) 446-5503. They guarantee you'll see dolphins, and if you don't, they take you out on another tour for free. This is why I suggest you BOOK THIS EARLY in your trip.

A great place to see the sunset, and only a 5-minute drive from my Airbnbs. There's free parking, or you can walk here from the Dunedin "village"/downtown. Grab an ice cream or have a drink or dinner at Bon Appetit, just next to the pier. Bon Appetit also has its own pier, where they serve drinks. It’s a gorgeous spot!

Just 10 minutes from my Airbnbs. I like this aquarium, because you can get up close to dolphins, stingrays, otters, etc. You can see Winter the dolphin, who became famous after the film Dolphin Tale told her inspiring story!

Florida Nature

This is a great little gem about a 10-minute drive from downtown St. Pete. Affordable ($3 - $6), fun and interesting. It's on a huge lake where I usually see alligators, has a great museum/gift shop and has "tram tours" (golf cart tours) with experienced, passionate volunteers who drive you through the preserve, explain Florida nature to you (some very interesting facts!) and let you stop and take photos, or to see the lake and the gators. Combine this with lunch and/or shopping in downtown St. Pete. Call them to book: (727) 893-7326.

Sail Honeymoon is THE place from which to kayak (a 15-minute drive from my Airbnbs), because it's near Honeymoon Island, and also Caladesi Island, one of the most beautiful, unspoiled little spots in the U.S. I do NOT recommend taking the ferry to Caladesi (20 minutes along the back of the island, with only mangroves, then once you dock, a 15-minute walk THROUGH mangroves, in order to end up on the beach). It's much better to kayak there. Make sure to CALL AHEAD and make sure it's not too windy to kayak. Sail Honeymoon will advise you where to go, and info on tides, which is important to know.
