Not that we particular care for it ourselves but if you feel the need for a late night hit of Macca's this place on the highway is a short stroll away and open 24 hours.

Getting Around

Closest railway station - cross the park at the end of the street, do a little dog leg kick to the right, and then keep going in a straight line until you get to it. Trains to the city every 15 minutes, however it is only a minor stop on the Bankstown Line so you may need to change trains at a main station if your destination is elsewhere.

Main local rail junction and interchange - if you need to get somewhere in a hurry this may be a better station to aim for. All express services stop here and you can change between main lines across the city.

Arts & Culture

This is the place that gives the area its name, and is one of the oldest churches on the entire continent. The early days in this part of the world were a bit rough and tumble, the wild inner west if you like, and the very working class peoples and attitudes of the Cook's River crossing community were very separate and less gentile that the good folk of Sydney town a few miles away up the highway. The gothic church graveyard describes many of those colourful characters and histories, while their website fills in the rest.

Parks & Nature

One of the best views of Sydney from atop the man made hill behind the iconic relic chimneys - the view of fireworks on New Year's Eve is pretty spectacular, you can see it exploding from about 6 locations along the Harbour. Best bit is that the crowd are sparse, relaxed, funky and grown up, rather than the touristy lemmings with huge litters of annoying rug rats packing the foreshores about the CBD - none of those nanny state prohibitions reducing the experience to a nanny state school assembly geared for the lowest common denominator.
