Parks & Nature

A great place for a walk. This is a 4 km long, skinny park that follows the shoreline of the lake between a quiet road (Okanagan Centre Road) and the lake with great views around every corner. Lots of nice places to stop for a swim. Don’t forget to visit OK Patio Café or Grey Monk Winery while you’re in the neighbourhood! About a 10 minute drive from the house; on Okanagan Centre Road West follow this road over the speed bumps and past the 3-way stop sign for about 3 minutes. You’ll see the first access to this linear park on the lake side just past the corner store directly abeam 4th Street. Dogs welcome.

Predator Ridge resort is a quick 10-12 minute drive from the house up a dirt road towards Vernon. Wonderful golf and dining facilities, but they also have some great hiking trails that are open to the public. They publish a hiking map and we should have several copies in the back of this book, if not you can get one at the resort, or online at: www.predatorridge.com

“Chinese-Canadian” food run by a local family, not fancy but good and fresh. On Fri-Sun evenings they have a dinner buffet, it’s about $14 for adults, $8 for kids. They usually have about 15 dishes, and unless you’re here late the food is usually fresh as there is a high turnover.

The best Indian food we’ve had, anywhere. Amazing tastes in a quiet unassuming location in downtown Kelowna. Nice ambiance, decorated with relevant items. If we’re picking up groceries in Kelowna sometimes we will order take out to have for dinner that night as the food reheats well (they close at 2 pm in the afternoon, so make sure to get there before that). They have an extensive menu but some of our favourite items are chicken coconut, eggplant bhartha, prawn saag and garlic-basil naan. Reservations recommended.

Great place for kids to play and exlore. Go here for the Apple Pie! This is a great stop for many reasons (especially with kids) – you can find more about the activities offered in our “Things to Do” Section. But even if you’re not traveling with children, stop in here and get some apple pie! They have a great little café with snacks, sandwiches and other goodies – nice place for lunch. You can have fruit pies fresh at the café, take a fresh one home or even buy it frozen and cook it at the house – it makes the house smell terrific! They also offer seasonal produce, most grown on site, in their market.

Lovely smaller scale winery and wine shop. Great local white wines and blends, and a very small deli selection. A really lovely spot to have a picnic on their lawn overlooking the vineyards and lake, in 2015 they opened a small kitchen offering picnic items/salads/charcuterie, etc. They have a dessert wine (less sweet than an ice wine and sweeter than a zinfandel) that has lovely apricot flavours, it is fantastic over local frozen grapes as an after dinner drink – very unique and delicious.
