Everyone has heard of Bah' Habbah' (Bar Harbor, Maine). It is the home to Acadia National Park. Very scenic, but also very crowded in the summer. 1 hour drive southeast of the Cottage, about 48 miles. As an alternative go to Belfast Harbor or to the Bucksport waterfront, much less crowded and equally as scenic.

If you want a place to explore the salt water and cool off in the summer, this is the place. Very cold Maine sea water but a fantastic sand beach for swimming, digging through the seaweed, finding crabs, building sandcastles, and salt water sunbathing. Never crowded.

A nice harbor without the crowds of Bar Harbor. 50 minutes southwest of the Cottage. Many fine restaurants and tourist shops, give Belfast a try if you want to avoid the huge tourist crowds in Bar Harbor/Acadia National Park.

Just across the Penobscot River from Orrington is the Bangor Waterfront. A nice place for a walk along the river and you can sometimes catch a concert in the open air concert venue or a car show in the parking lots. There is always something going on at the Bangor Waterfront.
