Bangkok Royal has been operating in Waco for 10+ years. We have been going there since college days when they were over by Baylor :) I don’t consider myself a foodie but I really do enjoy Thai food. Seeing as how they’ve lasted this long they must be good! And it’s the only Thai place in town haha I usually go for the Pad Thai chicken, Pad See Ew or Tom Kha Gai soup. Satay is our go to for the kids

Home of the GutPak! Need I say more?? But really it’s been around forever and a local fav by far. Great BBQ and their creation called the GutPak: chopped brisket + Fritos + cheese + onions + beans = one filled gut (of course you can customize your GutPak) They even have the GutPak Run. Yup. Run a 5k and then eat a Gut Pak :)

Go for the tasting or the tour...or both! Balcones whiskey distillery began their story right here in Waco in 2008. I personally enjoy hearing the process behind a product so I like taking tours. You can also just visit for a drink. Check out Balconesdistilling.com for info on hours and tours if whiskey is your poison ;)

*Currently operating out of Vitecks BBQ. Due to no food trucks allowed at Silos.* Located on the Magnolia Silos grounds this is one of our favorite places to grab lunch! Yes we fight the tourist crowds for this stuff. The name may be deceiving though - no club sandwiches here! They simple narrowed down their menu to the most popular item. You customize your bowl of rice, a protein, veggies and sauce. I’m not a food columnist so I can’t jazz that up haha but trust me it’s delish. He usually has samples on hand so you can taste the goodness.

The suspension bridge is restricted to pedestrians and bicyclists so it’s the perfect place to get a look up and down the river. Located on Franklin Ave it’s near restaurants, the convention center and shops. There are life size statues of Chisholm Trail riders and their cattle. You may also notice a large statue and sculpture on the north side of the bridge. That is Doris Miller who was the first African American to be awarded the Navy Cross; for manning anti-aircraft guns and tending to the wounded during the attack on Pearl Harbor. Local youngsters are known to toss tortillas on to the near by pillars.

Cameron Park is Waco’s hidden gem! Acres of green and trails for walking, jogging or bicycling. You can take it easy on the flat river trail or venture into the wild on one of the many more adventurous trails. Be careful some are for bikes only so keep an eye out for signs. You can park at Redwood shelter and walk to the River Trail trail-head. Or just keep driving into the park for a tree lined drive. You’ll find several mini parks with parking and trail heads along the way. It’s all beautiful so just take a chance on any of the trails :) Don’t forget your phone for finding your way around the park - even the trails are on Google maps.

Pretty much the main Waco attraction these days! This area has the Magnolia Shop, food trucks, the Magnolia bakery and new coffee shop. There is a large faux grassy area for kids to run and play, and adults too! Several food trucks - burgers, hot dogs, pizza, gelato, sweet tea. Our favorite is Club Sandwich is the back corner! The name is deceiving though, no sandwiches served there, haha. They now serve what everyone loved from the original menu which was once called trash can salad I believe. Pick your meat served on shredded lettuce and rice, mix in onions and carrots. Top with cilantro lime sauce or siracha or both! The gentleman that owns the food truck is super friendly and always offering samples!
