Andora Villas Oia

Γειτονιές
Oia, the first settlement to be preserved (1976), is without a doubt one of the most photographed places in Greece. Her sunset has been a source of inspiration to inexperienced artists, and her streets act like magnets inviting you to get lost in their well-kept secrets. Oia, which is about 15-20 minutes drive from Fira, will amaze you because it is truly irresistible. The main road divides it into two areas: one, facing the caldera, has impressive cave buildings, the other adorned by captain's houses. Do not be surprised by the infinite domes that appear in every corner, as there are more than 60 churches in Oia. At the edge of the settlement is the Castle, with the pieces preserved to offer a unique view, but also a fascinating journey into the past. The quality is synonymous with the region, which is one of the most interesting experiences in Santorini. Oia's restaurants and café bars will satisfy you, with minimal shopping suggestions tempting you. Don't forget to descend the 214 steps that separate Oia from the picturesque Ammoudi, where you will enjoy guaranteed fresh fish. Also in Oia is the Maritime Museum that is worth your visit.

Excavated in red volcanic rocks, beneath the beautiful Oia and next to the deep blue waters of the Aegean, there is a beautiful location of Santorini, the pristine Ammoudi. This was the main port of Oia in the 19th and 20th centuries and all the trade in the area passed through. From Ammoudi, Oia, thanks to its great naval power, exported the famous Vinsanto and all the goods of Santorini. Today Ammoudi is one of the most beautiful spots on the island, where you have to take a dip in the rocks of Agios Nikolaos, admire the magnificent sunset and of course, enjoy a magnificent meal or dinner. You can reach Ammoudi either by descending 214 steps from the castle of Oia, one of the most ideal and perhaps the most famous place to enjoy the sunset, or by the main road that connects Ammoudi with the rest of the island.

During the Middle Ages, in Oia there was one of the "Castels" of the island: the "Castel of Agios Nikolaos". There are reports of the existence of the castle from 1480. It apparently began to form a little earlier, at a time when the Venetians were the rulers of the island. From the fortress of Agios Nikolaos in Oia today is saved a piece of goula (tower). It was named after a cave church dedicated to Agios Nikolaos and was built around 1450. The castle was heavily damaged by the earthquake of 1956 and much of the traditional settlement fell into the sea below the caldera. Great temples, such as the church of Saint George and the Virgin of Platsani, were completely destroyed. Although not much is left of the castle, it is one of the most touristy places in Greece. This is where people from all over the world arrive every afternoon to watch the sunset.

It is the old port of Oia. A few years ago here the ferry of the line was here. With boats and "boats" (large, oil-powered, boats) the people landed and then climbed to Oia with mules and donkeys. In Armeni, named after the ships' masts, in the 19th century they operated a carnage where the sailboats of the sailors of the Upper Meria were "built" (manufactured). It is accessible by boat.
