This small village, Bir Billing is an adventure destination, located in the west of Joginder Nagar Valley in the state of Himachal Pradesh in northern India. There are so many enthralling and unique activities to do in Bir. Widely this area is known for a popular site for Paraglide pilots, both Indians and visitors from all over the world. Mostly referred as “Paragliding Capital of India”, Bir is a heaven for all adventurers seeking a weekend to quench your thrill thirst and also a noted centre for ecotourism, spiritual and meditation. Bir is also home to a Tibetan refugee settlement with several Buddhist monasteries and a large Stupa. The paragliding launch site is in the meadow at Billing (14 kms north of Bir), at an elevation of 2400 meters, while the landing site and most tourist accommodations are in the village of Chowgan (also spelled Chaugan), on the southern edge of Bir. While Billing is takeoff site for paragliding and Bir for landing. Collectively it is known “Bir Billing”. The Destination was not famous before 6 to 7 year ago as paragliding took places in Bir billing and landing was away from Bir so after 1985 this activity was known as Hand gliding at (Bir billing areas) later on the technique developed its converted into paragliding later due to some issue with Tibetan for paragliding landing portion later paragliding association of billing decide to acquire the land of Bir village for paragliding to landing point to develop Bir village and tourist spot and to help for establishing their Home stay concept. Gunehar waterfall – Gunehar Waterfalls (height of 100 ft.) is the prime attraction of the Gunehar village, which is around 2 kms away from Bir. The gorgeous waterfall can be reached through a short trek from the village and is surely going to be one of the most thrilling and enriching experiences of your life. The crystal clear water cascading down the hillock is a pure visual delight. And aside for the mesmerizing landscape, you can also enjoy jeep rides or ride mountain bikes through the quaint pathways. The spot is frequented by a number of tourists, especially photography buffs and nature lovers. Among the most popular things to do in Gunehar is watching the mesmerizing sunsets or walking down amidst the heart melting greenery or simply just sipping the delightful Tibetan tea. You can also catch a view of the magnificent Dhauladhar Mountains in the backdrop. Chowkling Monastery - Bir has some famous tourist spot for visitors, one of them is Chowkling Monastery which falls the “Bir colony which is also famous for residence Tibetan refugee here in “Bir you can find the maximum market and shops are owned by Tibetan and rest is by vocal of Himachal and “Chowkling Monastery” is very good place to visit and have look to monks life inside the Monastery as it is very famous Monastery in Himachal here you find from child monk to young monks and old age monks here people from Tibetan colony also came to contribute as volunteer into have peace of mind it is very peaceful if you around “Bir village” it is must to see place we have visit this place from all around have can capture same scenic beauty of mountain from the Monastery as you will enter monastery from Bir colony the main entrance as you go down stairs you will see lots of mountain dogs always roam around these which are best friends of these monks inside the monastery and you will also see the monks there engaging their own camping somebody is meditation while some child monks playing football inside alone and while some are listening to the songs because all monks are free to enjoy their own company in monestary it depends how they will enjoy their but one good it came to know about those monks that if you willing take picture they never refuse always happy to take the picture with “pure smile” and sense of happiness inside which is one of the greatest thing you can find of them. Sherabling Monastery – The natural beauty of this little town, with a colorful Tibetan influence can be taken in and truly experienced by talking walks around the place. The nature walks commence from Bir Tibetan Colony to Baijnath via Sherab Ling monastery and take the tourists from beautiful forests and tea gardens. The Sherab Ling Monastery also offers periodic courses in Buddhist meditation and philosophy. You will also find a colorful cluster of more Buddhist monasteries and temples in the area. Historical Baijnath temple – Baijnath Temple is a Nagara style Hindu temple situated in a small town of Baijnath, and was built in 1204 A.D. by two local merchants named Ahuka and Manyuka. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva as Vaidyanath, ‘the Lord of physicians. there are so many local bus for Baijnath temple it is almost 12 Kms journey from local bus and this was quite Baijnath temple the oldest temple near Bir village almost 5000 years old also known as Shiv temple. Deer Park Institute – The Deer Park Institute is a centre for the study of classical Indian wisdom traditions where you can enroll in programs on meditation, philosophy, art and culture, Yoga and healing arts, Buddhism and more. If you are here for a shorter period of time check out the occasional meditation retreats and workshops here. Bir Bazaar (Local market) – This is local market for the peoples, tourists and localized both. Known as the Bir Bazaar or Tibetan Market, is another tourist spot in the area. With tea gardens and Paragliding landing site around the town, is the best combination of beauty of this destination, the market is known for tattoo shops, handcraft and bustling tourist activities. Dharamalaya institute – Dharmalaya institute, the institute is an eco-campus where one can volunteer for a number of environmental programmers such as organic farming, sustainable village development, green building etc as well as a number of recreational activities like meditation and yoga. The institute is situated in, the village Ghornala which is approximately 3 Kms from the main Bir. You will love walking through dense forest with moderate up and down.
