Bali Mexican! Not expensive. Groovy. Book ahead (online or phone) if you don't want to wait for a table. It can get really busy sometimes and at these times the service can get a bit ragged at time, but if you are relaxed and not in a hurry, as you want to be on holidays, it is not a problem.

This is a functioning fish market. Go early to see it for yourself and don't be shy about buying for yourself, everybody else does. You will not buy better quality or for lower cost in Bali.

All fixed now after collapse and a sight to see. A trip out to Lembongan can be a great day. Lembongan is about 25 years behind Bali in terms of development. Hiring a private boat can be a great way to do this for a family. We use Rocky who owns Balirizio Boat tours. Look it up on the internet. The boat he has is large and spacious and not too expensive. We think this is a lot better then the mass tourist boats.

At the southern end are rice fields and streams that lead to the Petanu River. There are no elephants here! Entry tickets are 15,000 rupiah for adults and 7,500 for children.
Tegalalang rice fields are one of the most beautiful natural scenarios in Bali. One of the most visited rice terrace around 30 min. from the center of Ubud. Around 120 min from our villa. Easy to enjoy in a day trip to Ubud and stopping in different attractions.

An amazing hike up a volcano. Great views is an understatement. Best done for sunrise. Organise a tour guide. They will pick you up early from villa and drive your there and then do the walk up with you before sunrise and have breakfast for you on top. Have a warm jacket because it is pretty chilly on top! Think about going to the nearby hot springs on the way home for a bit of a freshen up and some relaxation.

The beach is quiet most of the day but it gets active in the afternoon and into the evening as locals come to play and tourists visit for the sunset, which is as good as it gets on Bali. It is also a great beach for a swim, a walk or a jog and there are also lots of budget café’s for breakfast, lunch or dinner. You can also hire kayaks and stand up paddle boards and even catamaran’s. Akua which is walking distance from villa does this as well and has nice food. It is also a great place to let off fireworks at night! You can also head out to surf Airport Rights or Toro Toro from the beach. Just across the road from the villa is the security checkpoint on the road in front of the beach.

If you want to surf Nusa Dua here is a great place to start from. Walk down to the beachfront and ask someone to be a captain. There will reliably be someone there from around 7am. They will take you out and back for 50.000Rp per person. Let them know what time you want to be picked up and they will be back on time reliably. Precisely where you surf is up to you. You can paddle out but it is a long paddle. Paddling in over the reef is pretty easy. Note the break is a long way out and it can be materially bigger than you might think.

A nice sandy beach. It can have a mighty shorebreak dumping on the beach and lots of visitors get nailed by it. Of itself this can be quite entertaining. A really pretty spot looking out to sea and south to the cliffs of the Bukit. Of course very pretty around sunset. Good for surfing with two main peaks with both lefts and rights. It is not unusual to see the odd turtle or dugong in the water. It needs quite a solid swell for the surf to be good and if it is good it is likely that lots of other places are better. Conversely it can be flat as a tack. Ultimately a pretty good wave for kids and learners when it breaks. The locals rent surfboards and body boards here as well. The food in the warung overlooking the beach is cheap and good and the Bintangs are cold. The pancakes and the nasi goreng are well up to scratch. This place has probably gotten a bit over built in the last few years (like a lot of places in Bali) but it is still pretty good.

Not really a secret spot. But the 500 or so steps down sees some people pass on it. If you want some seclusion this will deliver. Bring everything you need. It also gets waves and picks up all the swell and pretty much always has something. A good option if Uluwatu is too small. Go early to avoid the wind getting into it.

An iconic spot for a beach day and surfing. If the waves are good at Padang, it is without doubt absolutely one of the very best waves in the world and well worth visiting to watch for that reason alone. There are lots of Warungs for food and drinks. It is further from the villa than Balangan, Dreamland and Bingin but the traffic will not be problematic in the main. If you want to surf Padang you really need to know what you are doing if it has a bit of size. If the swell is small it will not be extreme and may not even be breaking. You can comfortably surf a little right in closer or Impossibles. Impossibles isn’t really impossible, just fast and lots of fun.

For surfing this Guidebook shows the wrong spot on the map and we don't know how to fix it. Anyhow, the spot to access Kuta reef for surf is 1-2km south. Go to Jalan Wana Segara at Tuban (south of Kuta). Walk out to the beachside and ask someone to be a captain. There will reliably be someone there from around sun up. They will take you out and back for 50.000 Rp per person. Let them know what time you want to be picked up and they will be back on time reliably. Precisely where you surf is up to you: Airport Lefts or Middles or Centres. There are lots of learners at Centres but it is still a good wave and the vibe in the water is good fun. Nobody seems to get too stressed out. If you are a good surfer and the idea of learners bothers you simply surf Middles or Airport Lefts. If you are a learner or a bit more, this is a great spot for you. A captain will also take you to Airport Rights from here as well.

Yes it gets busy, yes it is touristy and yes the little critters can get wild and might even bite if you are not careful. But it is still a beautiful park and the monkeys are amazing families that are great to get up close to and interact with. Well worth the visit. if you haven't done it before, don't let yourself get talked out of it. Watching the monkeys get wild with the other visitors is indeed part of the fun!

Not available at moment. You might be up to take on Mt Batur across the way a little unprepared. Don't do that here. If you want to do it come prepared. The top is above 3,000m and the walk up is 4-6 hours depending on where you start from. The walk down is tough as well. Not a lot of people will be on the hike. Typically people do it in the dark to catch the sunrise on top. The views are everything you will hope for. This is a serious hike. Think proper hiking shoes, walking poles, gloves (think descent), layers (it gets cold), food and drink, head lamp, sunscreen and a guide (be picky and careful about this part). Whatever you treat yourself to after this hike, you deserve it!

The waterfall is located only about 10 minutes from Ubud. After paying the entrance fee of 10,000Rp continue until you get to the stairs. The path splits at one point: right will take you to a temple and left down to the waterfall. If you want to get a closer look at the falls cross the log bridge and follow the stairs up. You cannot jump from this point into the pool at the bottom as the water is not deep enough. Head there earlier in the day to avoid the crowds.

Famous cliffs sprawling rice terraces are located in the Tegallalang Village, about a half hour north of Ubud. The villagers allow visitors to walk among their intricately designed terraces. You can go to the overlook and take as many pictures as you want for free. There is also no fee to enter and hike among the terraces, however if you venture far enough you will come to a bridge where the locals who maintain the paths will ask for a small donation for the upkeep of the trails and bridges. 5,000Rp per person is sufficient.

There are two waterfalls which can be used; the first jump spot is from 12 metres and the other from 16 metres. This is a pretty amazing dive spot. The USS Liberty was a United States Army cargo ship torpedoed by a Japanese submarine in January 1942. She was being towed to Singaraja for repair (I believe) and was taking too much water so she was beached at Tulamben. In 1963 a volcanic eruption of the nearby Mount Agung moved the ship off the beach. That would have been a sight to behold of itself! This creating what is widely regarded as one of the world's finest diving sites. The three main areas in Tulamben Bay are the wreck, the coral gardens and the drop-off. You can also take short trips to Kubu ( just a few minutes north), Sereya ( a few minutes south) and Amed, quite easily. All levels are catered for including kids. Minimum age of 10 I think. You can make your way up to Tulamben by yourself and find a dive shop there to look after you. There are lots. Or you can contact someone like Pro Dive (based in Denpasar) and they will look after everything for you - pick up and return to villa, resort dive training if you have not done it before, 2 dives, morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea. Diving and snorkelling at Tulamben makes for a great and satisfying day out.

Don't let people fool you around the logistics and that it is close to Ubud. It's not. The elephants seem to be well looked after and they are magnificent. There are great opportunities to get up close.
If you are planning a day out for exploration. Consider this for your itinerary. Whilst a bird park might not seem much on the face of it. This is a beautiful park with an amazing collection of birds. All seem well looked after.

Take a ride on a Jukung (Indonesian outrigger canoe). You can go all the way down to Uluwatu from Jimbaran Bay and check Bali out from a completely different direction. Do some swimming, snorkeling or surfing or whatever you like. You may get lucky and spot some dolphins or even a dugong (sea cow) and if you time it around the sunset that will be amazing.

These guys do the best quad bike tour. It is called ATVs on the Beach. It heads out on the beach and around the rice fields up near Tabanan. The scenery is magnificent. It is a beautiful stretch of black sand coastline up there and you are unlikely to see it like this any other way. Riding the quad bikes is easy and on the beach you can get a lot of speed but have some comfort around a level surface. Nevertheless be careful. If you head up this way to do this, going to visit Tanah Lot around sunset makes for a great day out as part of it.

White water rafting is another great activity for the family. Lots of fun and not at all dangerous. They will pick you up and return you to the villa if you like. Or if you have a rental car use it and take a driver for the day to make things easy.
