Chicago History Museum was founded in 1856 to study and interpret Chicago's history. Much of the early collection of the Chicago Historical Society was destroyed in the Great Chicago Fire in 1871. Among its many documents which were lost in the fire was Abraham Lincoln's final draft of the Emancipation Proclamation. The museum explores both Chicago and American history. The extensive research library includes books and other published materials, manuscripts, paintings, sculptures, and photos. The costume collection numbers more than 50,000 pieces and dates from the 18th century to the present.

If you love roller coasters you will love this place. There are roller coasters for all ages. Some days the lines are longer than others (30 - 60 minutes) I suggest packing a lunch in the cooler and leaving it in the car in the parking lot it is a lot cheaper that way.
