The chefs from the two top-rated restaurants on the island on Tripadvisor, Spice of India and Masala Bay, got together in November 2016 and opened this place in Vieux Fort. The decor or location is not as good, but the food is identical and the price is 35% lower. It's a 20-25 minute drive from our house. Highly recommended.

This is a gorgeous $900/night resort. But you can enjoy their excellent buffet lunch for $45 (includes wine), stroll on the perfect beach, and go for a swim. The lunch pass lets you stay there 11:30am-2:00pm.

Really excellent sushi. Located at the Rodney Bay Marina, which is a curious place with weather-worn sailors from all over the world.

Fedo's is hard to find, but if you want cheap local food, this is it. Expect to pay $4-6 US for a rotis or burger. Rotis is their speciality, but get there by noon or they'll run out.

Orlando used to be the head chef at Ladera Resort's Dasheene restaurant. A few years ago he opened this little place in Soufriere. Dinner is $50 US or more, but we recommend going for the $10 US lunch between noon and 2pm. However, don't go if you're in a hurry — the pace is very relaxed.

Short, easy hike to stunning views of the north and of Martinique. It's got the ruins of lookouts from the 1700s. It closes at 5:00pm unless you're going to the restaurant, which is actually pretty decent.

If you are an experienced hiker and quite fit, this is an absolutely amazing hike. At the top you feel like you are standing on the top of the world. Don't attempt it until you do Gros Piton first — it's much more intense. Guide is about $100US per person.

Best snorkelling on the island. It's a gated hotel but they let everyone go to the beach. The Pitons tower above the swimming area. Very beautiful.

This beautiful beach is at the base of Gros Piton. It's a 15-minute hike down from the road (the dot on the map shows where to park). You'll usually have it all to yourself, except for a couple of fishermen. It's an interesting place to snorkel, too — there is a sharp drop-off on the south side of the beach, almost like an underwater cliff.

This guidebook won't let me mark Sabwisha beach directly, but it's the beach just north of this dot. Sabwisha is our local beach. It's beautiful, undeveloped, and usually devoid of people except for Sundays. We often go there to swim or body surf if it's a wavy day. A $200M resort has been approved to go in at this location, so enjoy it while it lasts...

Kitesurfing. This is one of 3 kitesurfing spots on the island, and they have the best instructors if you want to learn. It's gated entry so let me know if you want to arrange it and I'll give you the number for the watersports manager.

Kitesurfing. Also an interesting beach walk — it's a half-mile long, and it's on the Atlantic side, so it smells and looks different. If you're a kiter, note that the wind must be directly from the east to make this spot usable. If it's slightly from the north, as sometimes happens, you can't kite.
