When Dumfries House was saved for the Nation in 2007, the purchase included 2,000 acres of wider estate. Today, the core Estate is an oasis of wonderful parkland, gardens and woodland walks that connect our estate buildings, many of which are home to our Educational Programmes. There are guides in most rooms of the castle, who are always happy to answer questions. Information sheets are provided in each room, which detail the architecture, furniture, objects and paintings. Highlights of the castle include Adam’s sweeping Oval Staircase and a fine collection of paintings and furniture. Children love to spot the Lego figure hidden in each room. Explore the grounds of Culzean by following the waymarked trails. From shingle beaches to soaring cliffs, a towering pagoda to a huge Deer Park filled with deer, llamas and Highland cows, there really is something for all the family to fall in love with there.

Arts & Culture
Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum houses one of Europe’s great art collections. It is the most popular free-to-enter visitor attraction in Scotland and the most visited museum in the United Kingdom outside London. The purpose-built museum opened in 1901. The scope of the museum is wide ranging and, when Kelvingrove re-opened in July 2006 after a three-year restoration and redisplay project, it was organised into two halves: Life and Expression. The Life galleries represent natural history, human history and prehistory. The Expression galleries include the fine art collections. A significant part of the paintings collection comes from the bequest of Archibald McLellan.
