Food Scene

This was the first "high end" restaurant in Oxford. It is owned by John Currence who is the recipient of the John Beard Award. He also owns several other restaurants in town. Downstairs is an elegant, linen tablecloths and napkins setting decor. Located above the iconic restaurant of the same name the bar upstairs stands in sharp contrast: it is a wonderful respite of mismatched chairs, folk art, long bar and a delightful balcony overlooking the Square. You are likely to rub elbows with an assortment of colorful locals from artists, authors, athletes and others. The bar staff is attentive and friendly. This is not a student hangout.

Owner Tate Moore is part of the local (and beyond) music scene as a member of the Kudzu Kings. He brings a Ohio-family recipe to his thin crust pizza and offers an amazing roast beef sandwich. If you're on the Square and looking for a quick bite this is it.

This long ago converted gas station is the best down and dirty Southern food stop you'll find, It is always featured on national sports programs when they roll into town to broadcast a game. Catfish is their speciality but the chicken ranks up there as well. The best keep (non-secret) is that they allow you to (discreetly) brown bag your alcohol. Locals bring an ice chest of beer and make runs out to the car throughout their meal to refill their red Dixie cups. Be prepared to wait for a table but during nice weather everyone hangs out on the porch or the annex next door. A local musician will often be playing.

Like the Graduate listed below the rooftop is the destination. There is a high wall surrounding the gardened terrace. The food is exceptional and the drinks are very well crafted.
