Prepare for amazing views and scenery just 40 minutes drive away. Waitakere Ranges Regional Park has subtropical native rainforest and trails to waterfalls such as Kitekite and Fairy falls. Karekare, to the south, also has a black sand beach. You can stop off at Titirngi Village on the way. It has a nice -free- art gallery and a couple of nice cafe's. Make sure to visit the black -volcanic- sand Piha Beach known for its strong surf and rugged scenery. Lion Rock is a volcanic monolith with war memorials and Maori carvings. Bethels beach is worth a visit too with a trail around lake Wainamu.
