Arts & Culture

Beautiful outdoors museum with buildings and stavkirker (wooden Viking churches) brought in from all over Norway. Good place to get to know Norwegian culture and music if you cannot travel the whole of Norway! Sometimes there are live "residents" in the huts and cottages from 1800s who will cook for you and invite you in. Live folk music and dances on som days. Celebrates Christmas market & Midsummer's Festival. See norskfolkemuseum.no/en/

Food Scene

Kings Pub offers pizza, pasta and good Italian food. A favourite bar for the locals, it is open everyday 12:00 - 01:00 for takeaways or eat-in, and for drinks at the bar. On some days the bar becomes lively with jazz and country bands, live music and locals. The best thing is that it is just 4 min walk from my apartment! :)

Good selection of Norwegian, Spanish and Japanese food in one place. You can buy wild salmon here and watch it being cooked in front of you. A higher class marketplace.

Very worth the trip to the end of Line 1 of the subway to Frognerseteren. It is an old heritage buillding converted into a restaurant on top of the hill where the ski jump is. Serves yummy Norwegian traditional food. If too pricey, just go for a coffee and sit by the window to admire the views of Oslo on a clear sunny day. Open 11am-10pm everyday according to Google.

Worth an hour's trip in the summer but take note of the infrequent boat times. Nice to use the Zone 1 ticket to take a boat into the fjord and onto the islands. Lindøya is full of cute huts and beautiful gardens. Hovedøya which is another boat stop, is famous for its medieval monastry and beach.

Sightseeing

Famous park for its naked statues by Gustav Vigeland, who created this whole park with its landscaping. His statues depict stages of life and the meaning of human relations. If you are here just for a day, go for this park. Free entry. Best seen in daytime, but romantic at night (warning: can be cold in winter).
