Food Scene

P'tit Laurent will remind you of a left bank bistro in Paris. The atmosphere is cozy, the food is formidable and there are always a couple of specials available that are well priced.

This authentic Mexican taqueria is really popular with cops and firemen from all over the city, so you know it's good. The portions are huge. My favorites are the burritos.

Bello is our Village coffee shop. They roast their own beans every day. I'm always on the lookout for good roasted coffee, but have never found anything as good as Bello. That includes Blue Bottle!

The place is tiny, but the breakfast crepes are epic. The food is delicious and the portions are large. It's an excellent change from your standard diner fare.

There a six Osha restaurants in SF, and for good reason. The Thai food is really good and the service friendly. I'm partial to the curries, yellow or green. All of the noodles dishes are tasty.

Gialina was recently reviewed on the PBS show, "Check Please." They gave it top marks, which is well deserved. All the pizzas are really great. I'm partial to the Margherita.

Don't be confused. Their sign say Lung Shan Restaurant but it's actually Mission Chinese. Anthony Bourdain proclaimed it fantastic. Two years ago, the young chef, Danny Bowien, won the James Beard award as best new chef. It has since opened a Mission Chinese on New York's Lower East Side in NYC. It was on this years New York Time's top restaurants for 2015. Needless to say, the food is excellent and the prices are reasonable. Get there before 6pm and avoid the wait.

Okay, you've seen all the sites in Golden Gate Park, and now you're really hungry. But you're in luck. cause I say Jenny's is the place where you get the best burger in SF.

Tartine is the best bakery in America. There, I said it, and if you don't believe me go there, then come tell me I'm wrong. Great for lunch or dinner.

Really good sushi restaurant. It's kid friendly and all their fish is 'sustainable.' I highly recommend the ramen noodles. Great value and $14 and a whole meal in itself.

Essentials

Canyon Market is Glen Park's version of Whole Foods, but better. Owners, Richard and Janet Tarloff, honed their skills working in New York City at Dean & Deluca and Zabars. A little pricy but boy is it good. Great produce and fantastic prepared foods. They bake their own bread and the baguettes are really good. Here's a tip: Tired after a busy day sightseeing? Drop by Canyon Market and visit their soap and salad bar. Each day they make 5 different homemade soups, and the salad bar is original and fresh.

This isn't just a garden, it's a work of art. You will be amazed at how beautiful this place is. When you finished touring the grounds, it's time to visit the tea garden.

Shopping

I was an REI guy. Then I discovered The Sports Basement. It's like a department for all things sports. Everything is discounted and there are loads of people there to help.
