Port Fairy is a great locality only 45 minutes drive from the airbnb. It has a charming heritage feel with old whalers cottages and historic buildings and wharves. Its also home to some of the best cuisine in the area with coffee and gourmet pizza, fine dining and fish and chips to satisfy the fussiest taste buds.

Port Fairy is a great locality only 45 minutes drive from the airbnb. It has a charming heritage feel with old whalers cottages and historic buildings and wharves. Its also home to some of the best cuisine in the area with coffee and gourmet pizza, fine dining and fish and chips to satisfy the fussiest taste buds.
Its the gold standard for coffee and people watching in Port Fairy.
You can sit and watch the main street in both directions getting a feel for the locals and tourists alike as you sip a cuppa or enjoy a well cooked meal. Its very casual but Rebecca will be there and is a local icon herself as she has served a great quality of hospitality for decades.

The lava caves are rare geological forms and Byaduk has world class examples clustered in an accessible and easy walk park just 5 minutes drive from the airbnb.
One of the caves is easily accessible if you are happy to climb down a natural rock stepped steep incline. Its worth it as the interior of the cave below is a sensory delight and with a torch you can explore the depths until you can no longer stand upright.

This spot is a geological wonder, where large mounds two and three stories high, appear to be possibly bulldozed stone. in fact it is the shattered remains of great lava blisters that burst and fractured as the lava river they were formed from cooled and ceased to flow tens of thousands of years ago.
Very rare and beautiful for their patina and colonies of lichen and other pioneer plants working to slowly reduce them back into dust.

The c=scale of the wind farm is quite stunning and the opportunity to get up close and personal is available with a tower that is located very close to the road so that tourists and can get a sense of the real scale of these giant windmills.
