Sightseeing

Laureles has a walking/small restaurants and coffee shops atmosphere. More quintessential Colombian than El Poblado. Bike path is fun.

This is part of the famed Colombian "Coffee Triangle" or "Eje Cafetero". The triangle is in the departments (like states or counties) of Caldas, Quindio, and Risaralda. Fly fromthe Medellin local airport to (or take a longer bus to) Armenia then a bus to Salento, a beautiful small town with coffee farms all over. Take a 'Willie" to the hills to hike the "Valle de Corcora" trail and see the super tall wax palms. I spent 6 days there and loved it! Be sure to get in on a game of 'tejo".

Arts & Culture

Plaza filled with the pudgy sculptures of Fernando Botero. This is in Centro, so I recommend going during daylight and maybe with another person.

Parks & Nature

Take a couple days and go out of town to Guatape. I recommend a couple of nights there. Climb the famous monolith Piedra El Penol, take a boat ride on the Emblase Del Penol, try their food, shop for trinkets. You can get there by bus from the northern bus station in Medellin. Just keep asking for Guatape and you will find the right ticket booth.
