Parks & Nature

Out of all of the Costa Rica waterfalls we’ve visited, the Nauyaca Waterfalls is the most majestic. The water fall is approximately 10 kms inland from Playa Dominical and 16 kms from Villa Vista Azul The Nauyaca Waterfalls consist of two falls: the upper waterfall plummets down from the height of 45 metres onto a rocky bed unsuitable for swimming, while the lower one, only 20 metres in height, forms a pleasant six-metre deep pool perfect for a refreshing dip. Most people go for a short trek (a bit more than 1 h), but other options such as a ride on the back of a pick-up truck or horses are also available. Dominical is best known for its waves, which draw surfers from all around the world. But there’s a lot more to this quirky, laid-back and fun beach town and the surrounding stretch of coastline called the Costa Ballena than just surf. Dominical’s village centre has lots to offer in terms of restaurants of different cuisines (many catering for vegetarians and vegans), the only Microbrewery on the Southern Pacific coast. a gym, yoga classes, surf classes, spanish classes and more. The beach drive is really a beautiful sight: a sea of colour set amongst palm trees. Hatillo is a quiet residential village with houses primarily on the hill facing side of Calle Hatillo. There are also very few luxury villas in the hills behind Hatillo, of which our villa is one. Although Hatillo does not provide any tourist attractions or tourist infrastructure, there are a few places which are useful for guests: we have two mini-supermarkets and a small number of restaurants (mostly frequented by locals). Mini Super Isabelita is located on Calle Hatillo towards Quepos, while Super Pura Vida is located on Calle Hatillo towards Uvita. Both supermarkets are open late and also on Sundays and are useful for shopping food items. There are also a number of Restaurants: Pizza Surftime is a good option for Pizza and also does a Chicken Roast on Sunday, which is delicious and popular with locals.
