Volcan Altar

Beautiful Paramo landscape (Valle de Collanes) and crater lagoon (Laguna Amarilla), usually very few people. How to get there: - 6:40 Take bus from Mercado Oriental to La Candelaria, get off at Hacienda Releche (about 45 minutes bus ride). - Walk up the unpaved road to Hacienda Releche. - If you want to sleep in the refuge ($15/person + 5 dollars for kitchen use), ask for the key at the hacienda. - Hike up the (sometimes very muddy) path for 5-8 hours to the refuge or to the camp site (about one more hour). Never cross the river which descends from the lagoon. - The next morning, hike up to the lagoon (about 2 hours from the refuge). You will find a small path between the forest of Polylepis and the river/waterfall. - Hike back to the Hacienda/ bus stop.

Cascada Condor Samana: - Guided tour starting in Urbina ($40 guide + car)
