Pubs and Bars

We do like a drink every now, and then especially on days when the sky is blue and the sun is belting down or if its wet and windy
This is our local, Pool Table, patio, Sport on TV, dog and people friendly. No food (but we have ordered in takeaways) Dogs must be on a lead but the lead doesn’t necessarily have to be attached to you. Mainly locals in here and the staff may be playing Jenga or pool but it’s a great night out especially if you end up on the Tiki Fire over proof rum. Huge advantage of being very close to the apartment.

healthy options

Out the back gate turn left 50 yards you can’t miss it. Health, vegan and vegetarian foods, plus good cakes and coffee. We order our bread from here, sounds expensive, but well worth the money. Try the daily special (eat in or takeaway)

Beaches

This is the one you can see from the entrance of Crest Court. This is a dog friendly family beach with just about everything you will need. RNLI life Guards are on duty in the season to patrol this sheltered beach making it ideal for the novice surfer. Plenty of food outlets from fish and chips to Tea and cakes. Beach hire including SUPs, wet suits, deck chairs, surf boards and even beach wheel chairs. It has Toilets the Aquarium and shops selling beach supplies such as buckets and spades. Its dog friendly and gets a massive recommendation from Mr Pringle. Home to Newquay Activity Centre who can put the adrenalin into your holiday with loads of activities for all ages and all experience levels (check out their surf cam). https://newquayactivitycentre.co.uk/towan-beach-newquay-webcam/

If the tide is out and you walk to the right past the island on Towan then Porth Beach is where you will end up. Check out the island (A bronze age settlement) Or the Mermaid pub for a pint and a baguette. RNLI cover in the season.

Poly Joke (Pol-Lejouack = Jackdaw cove in Cornish) is a bit of a trek from the nearest car park and has no facilities at all. It has nothing to attract tourists. I should mention its dog friendly, has caves and rock pools beautiful golden sands with few people on it and a sea that has managed to entice me in in my clothes.Nothing to see here.

This is a dangerous one. National Trust car-park, gift shop and café at the top of the high cliff. Steep steps take you down to a little beach that most people are happy to stay on but if you head to the right on a falling tide you will find paradise. Watch that tide because it will come back in and this place is so beautiful you risk getting cut off trying to stay longer than you should. Check tide times and set an alarm! Don`t tell people about this place its better with fewer there. One day here we saw just two people a nun paddling in the surf and an Australian surfer dude who just said “Aint it great to be alive” Maybe you had to be there but we think its special. NO ACCESS AT THE MOMENT AS STAIRS ARE STORM DAMAGED.

Cafes

Baguettes and cream cakes are the specialty here. We take them back to eat as an afternoon tea in the courtyard or on Killacourt They have a small café upstairs if you want to eat in and will even make cakes to order if you have a special occasion whilst you’re on holiday.
