My favourite Restaurants

We love to eat out when we get freedom from the children however we have tried so many places and keep going back to our favourites
You have to try the Stir Fried Pork Belly and the Malaysian Spiced Chicken & Cabbage Salad. If Claire is working make sure you give her a big tip as she goes above and beyond to ensure you get the best experience

The ribs are to die for. I'm sorry for all the vegans out there I am a carnivore at heart. The meat platter will give you food coma and leave you satisfied you gave it your best shot. If you just need a quick nibble try the peri peri chicken. Has a bite but very tasty

Gorgeous view over the lake on a sunny day. Nice selection of wines to ease into the night. Sophisticated and upmarket but casual enough to relax. A nice scotch with the fire always finishes off a night out for dinner for us.

Activities worth doing

Living in this amazing part of the world we love to get out amongst it. With four children in tow we can suggest a few of the activities that we get to do.
This has to be one of my favourites. On a magic day this fast paced thrilling ride through the canyons doesn't compare to any video game. You may get wet if you sit in the back left or right corners

Get out in the fresh air and take in the sights. Not only do you get exercise you get to experience one of the most amazing views as you ride out to Gibbston Valley. Stop at the bungy bridge to be a spectator or participator but keep going to Gibbston Winery for some amazing wines. Don't worry if you have more than you can handle because they can pick you up and bring you back to Arrowtown

These guys have amazing wines and a great restaurant that you can relax the day away. I love a good pinot with a cheese board from Gibbston Cheesery across the parking lot. On a sunny day I don't want to move.

When you need to sit down and watch the scenery pass you by grab the Earnslaw steamer across the lake to the farm. Explore the steamer and learn about the history of lake and how the old girl made it to the lake. Have a coffee or bite to eat onboard but don't spoil your appetite if you are heading across the lake for dinner

The drive to this gem is amazing. For those who have a camera other than a phone its simply the most spectacular picture from Rats point (You'll know when you arrive) If you're blessed to get a still calm sunshine day the lake acts like a mirror and the beauty is why we are called "Godzone" Once in Glenorchy try an ale at the pub for a back country feel or check out the cafe for some delicious bites. We prefer to keep going down to the Rees or Dart valleys and go for a walk. The famous Routeburn walk starts from the Dart valley and if you have time make the effort to do it. Up the Rees Valley you can explore the old scheelite mines and relics and find out how hard they had it.
