Walks on your Doorstep

Some walks around Drummuir
Walk to Drummuir Castle and Loch Park (easy 3 miles roundtrip from Easterton on quiet road and tracks– but some leaping of stones to cross the ford). Head downhill from Easterton on the road, downhill past the estate office and Castle. Keep heading downhill until there is a road on the right to Botriphine Church. Take the path from the church carpark to the loch – past the walled garden, fish hatchery and through the woods to the loch. You can make it circular by coming back from the loch on the same path but when you get to Westerton crossroads, turn left heading uphill. Follow the track over a ford and past the estate woodshed. Then you’re back on the road with Easterton back up the hill on your left. http://www.morayways.org.uk/routedetails.asp?routeid=111

Walk along the Loch: 5 miles roundtrip from Easterton. Once at the loch (see above) you add on anther 2 miles (one to the bottom of the loch, another back) by heading down the track to the right side of the loch, then taking the grassy track that switches back above it. It’s boggy in places https://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/moray/drummuir.shtml

Walk the Isla way into Dufftown (5 miles): past the loch, over the hill and down to the distilleries of Dufftown http://www.morayways.org.uk/isla-way.asp . When you get there, there’s a great café at the train station or at Glenfiddich distillery for lunch (more ideas on where to eat in Dufftown below). Recommend you do a distillery tour, then catch the train back (weekends in summer only) or taxi back if no train.

Walk up on the hill (3 miles): Head uphill from Easterton. At the cattle grid, take the track to the left, heading gently uphill. Follow the track onto the hill, past the wind turbines with Ben Rinnes in the distance. After almost a mile, the track turns left gently downhill to Westerton Farm. Head down to the ford and past the estate woodshed. Then you’re back on the road with Easterton back up the hill on your left.

Activities your doorstep

Some things to do
You can take out a boat on the loch through prior arrangement where there is excellent wild brown trout fishing. Call James on 01542 810 334 to arrange. There’s a little festival there in the summer too with music, BBQ, face painting etc.
