High Mountain Pies has awesome pizza and awesome service. Their food is available for eat in, take out, or delivery. They also occasionally have live music. They are accommodating to vegan diets (no vegan cheese but very good pizza without cheese)

This is a newer restaurant in town. They have an amazing rooftop area with spectacular views. Happy hour is daily from 3:30-5:30. They have a limited menu with locally sourced foods. (I would not recommend this restaurant for those who follow a vegan/ plant based diet) They have rooftop live music as well as music in the restaurant occasionally. *Note: they open at 3:30. During the day they have a workspace available.

Casa Sanchez has great mexican food. They even now have outdoor seating. They are very family friendly and provide great customer service. If you're into margaritas I recommend the natural margarita over the house margarita. Head to safeway and keep your receipt for BOGO margaritas or a deal on entrees. Their fajitas are fantastic!

Tennessee Pass is a great restaurant serving American food. The brussels sprouts are amazing! (even if you don't normally like them) They have a cute little bar with a lot of great beer choices. The large outdoor seating area is great. *Note: ask if they are out of anything. They are occasionally out of certain things as many ingredients are locally sourced

Retail

Community Threads is an awesome consignment sporting goods store. They have pretty much anything you will need to have a good time outdoors: skis, snowshoes, camping gear, bikes, etc. Definitely a great place to check out. They also have a few handmade items available from local sellers.

Definitely a place to stop in town. This place is awesome. They make outdoor clothing (for kids and adults) right there in the shop. Stock may be limited, but it is definitely a place you won't want to miss.

The library is a great place to relax, use a computer (they also have color printing), or even enjoy a program. They have historical programs periodically as well as regularly scheduled story times for children (not in the summer, though). The staff is very friendly and helpful. There is also a Leadville history room that is a must see.

Mount Elbert is a great (not very difficult but may be crowded) hike to the highest point in Colorado. It is located just outside of town and easily accessible (no 4WD needed in summer months).

Mount Massive is a long hike but worth it for the views. The trailhead is easily accessible (and no 4WD is needed in the summer months). The trailhead gets crowded, so arrive early or be prepared to have to walk some to the trailhead. Don't forget to bring enough water!
