Harris Beach was named after the Scottish pioneer George Harris who settled here in the late 1880s to raise sheep and cattle. The park boasts the largest island off the Oregon coast: Bird Island (also called Goat Island) is a National Wildlife Sanctuary and breeding site for rare birds such as the tufted puffin. The park offers sandy beaches interspersed with rocky outcroppings harboring interesting tidepools with their wide variety of life. Sea stacks dot the ocean just off shore. This park is accessible from Casa Redondo via the beach at low tide, or via the hiking and biking trail which intersects Beach Avenue at high tide. https://oregonstateparks.org/index.cfm?do=parkPage.dsp_parkPage&parkId=58

Craggy bluffs, secluded beaches, and offshore rock formations await visitors along the 12 ocean-hugging miles of Samuel H Boardman State Scenic Corridor, located between Brookings and Gold Beach along Highway 101. You can drive along this stretch of the highway, stopping at one turnoff after another, each with access to picnic areas, viewpoints, or hikes to the beaches below. Or you can hike some or all of this 18-mile segment of the Oregon Coast Trail, wandering through dense Sitka spruce, hugging the trail as you pass plummeting cliffs, or pausing to take in otherwise unseen vistas. Caution: the trail can be steep, slippery, and very exposed in some areas. https://oregonstateparks.org/index.cfm?do=parkPage.dsp_parkPage&parkId=56 https://www.oregonlive.com/travel/2015/07/boardman_state_park_is_crescen.html

Secret Beach is a pristine strip of fine grained sand surrounded by ocean-chiseled cliffs and sea stacks which shelter the beach from the brunt of wind and waves. The relative obscurity of and limited access to this beach permits visitors to enjoy the spot in relative serenity. Be sure to time your visit to coincide with low tide when the beach is most accessible. There is no sign and most maps will not show this destination. To get there, drive North on the Oregon Coast Highway to between Miner Creek to the south and Mill Creek to the north (between mile markers 346 and 345). On the west (left) side of the highway look for a guardrail. Pull off the road where the guardrail ends, and you can park behind it in a small gravel parking area. From there, look for a small dirt path to the trailhead and enjoy an overlook into aptly-named Thunder Rock Cove. Follow the trail about 1/4 mile to the secluded beach. There is one 20 foot section of steep rock that requires careful navigation. A waterfall on Miner Creek just above the beach adds to the idyllic scene. Secret Beach is within the Boardman State Park and Scenic Corridor. For more info, see: https://www.oregonlive.com/travel/2015/07/boardman_state_park_is_crescen.html
