Craft beer

This is a very friendly beer shop and tap room. The owners are locals and have a craft beer cab that can be rented out for events. There is always six beers on tap and a good range in the fridge for takeaway or to drink on-site.

Brunch

I often spend Sunday mornings here, there is an outside space for those lazy summer breakfasts. It is an independent, family-run café located in a beautiful and historic building called Stanley Halls. They do a great ‘Full English Breakfast’ and also, have a vegan option. Their cakes always look good too.

Neighbourhoods

South Norwood is a residential area, with some nice local places to eat and drink. I have lived here over three years and feel very safe. It's a great place to stay if you want easy access to London but want to stay in a quieter area. Crystal Palace is just a 25min walk up the hill and is full of bars and restraunts. There is also a lovely park there, which was originally the home of the Victorian Crystal Palace, until it was destroyed by a fire in 1936.

It hosts music events, art exhibitions and has its own community run cinema. https://www.stanleyhalls.org.uk/events/categories/film/cinema-at-the-halls/ There is a peaceful sailing Lake called ‘South Norwood Lake’ Croydon Sailing Club and Croydon Youth & Schools Sailing Association use the Lake. The lake is also used for fishing by the day or season ticket, there is basketball court, cricket wickets, tennis courts, bowling green and a refreshment kiosk. This place is really nice for a short stroll where you can chat to the locals. There are a couple of good pubs, The Craft Beer Cabin, The Shelverdine Goat House, The Portland Arms.

The building was designed and erected in Kensington Gardens for the Great Exhibition London 1851 and then relocated to what is now known as Crystal Palace park and formally opened by Queen Victoria in 1854. The park has gardens, trees, fountains, a maze and lifesize figures of dinosaurs that have been recently restored. These figures were created in the 1850s were made by the sculptor Benjamin Waterhouse Hawkins. There is also Crystal Palace National Sports Centre with an athletics stadium which had been the home ground of Crystal Palace Football Club from 1906 until it moved to Holmesdale Road. There is a fantastic ‘Everyman’ Cinema in Crystal Palace.
