Poverty Point is a World Heritage Site and a U.S. National Monument located 86 miles east of Ruston. It makes for a great day trip where you will see earthen ridges and mounds built by indigenous people between 1700 and 1100 BC. Now that is old!

This is a special place where you can see long leaf pines and where Caroline Dormon lived. She was the first female employed by the U.S. Forest Service and was a leader in having the designation of Kisatchie as a National Forest. It has guided tours on weekends March, April, May, October, and November. Saturday's from 9:00 - 5:00 and Sunday 12:00 - 5:00.

About 40 miles from Ruston and is a great example of bayou beauty. Nice walking trails that aren't too long, but carry you into the woods and along the water. Great visitor center with quality aquatic displays.

Located 24 miles east of Ruston along I-20 is the museum. The actual ambush site is a 10 mile drive south from the museum.

A nice, flat linear trail which is built on the old Rock Island Railway line. It is being built out in phases which will run 6 miles from the northern edge of Ruston to the southern edge. A north section is open providing a nice tree canopied walk or bike ride for 2 miles round trip.
