Near the shores of majestic Lake Arenal lies the sleepy pueblo called Nuevo Arenal. A simple but sophisticated town. 40 years ago this area was given to displaced farmers who lost their land under the newly flooded lake. Since the early 90's foreigners have settled in these pleasant mountains, known for fierce winds, howling rain, and the most stunning sunny days of your life. Groceries, bars, restaurants, a gas station and a bank. We have only a small town, but we have enough. The lake is world class. Sit by the shore in the public park, or try a kayak or hire a boat. Even foodies will find flavor in Nuevo Arenal. Activities Walking, birding, windsurfing, kiteboarding, wake boarding, kayaking, dining out, drinking, snoring, hot springs and volcano trips (about a 45 minute drive to Arenal Volcano). We are about one hour to downtown La Fortuna, which is a tourist town with lots of activities. There is a very nice park on the lake open during daylight to the public. From the gas station go down the steep hill turn right at the bottom then a quick left in 200 meters left turn into the park. Yoga and natural health and healing is big all around the lake. Restaurants/Bars in Nuevo Arenal: Moya’s, Las Delicias, Gingerbread, Bambu, Las Tinajas, and more! And now the Soda La Parada is one of my favorites for its good food at fair prices. Groceries Compe Compra and across the street Mas Menos are two nice grocery stores. There are four or more other grocery stores also. Weather This is a rain forest. We get a lot of rain. Rain can list 10 minutes to all day. Be prepared. When the sun is out there is no more beautiful spot on planet earth!
