Here are some of my local favourites for a family day out or a special treat.
This is a Contemporary International Art Gallery less than 20 mins. away by car, to rival the likes of Britain's Tate galleries or Peggy Guggenheim. It is situated in the historic and beautifully preserved chateau of Rochechouart. The town is very picturesque, with great views, shops and restaurants.

This is the famous Mr and Mrs Smith 5 star hotel, leisure and restaurant complex. The location is only 10 minutes away and stunning. There is also a brand new free International Contemporary Art Gallery here too open every afternoon. You can wander the ground and majestic gardens or order drinks on the lawn but prices are not for those on a budget.

Angouleme is the closest city with beautiful ramparts and views over the charente valley. It hosts an annual film festival, a famous Remparts weekend of classic car racing and displays in September and an Internationally renowd festival of 'BD' bande designer- graphic novels and comics.
