Food scene

These recommendations are my favorite locally owned, independent, farm to table gourmet, frequented by real New Yorkers, and in my opinion will give a true local flavor to your trip if you can go to some or all of these place. Cheers.
Probably the most famous speakeasy bar in nyc. Enter through the hot dog restaurant left side phone booth opens into a very swanky cocktail lounge.

This place defines the east village. It is gritty and real very liberal with a top notch chef. I think it is important for every tourist to do lunch here once during the trip.

Of the gourmet pizza places all over nyc now this one represents them well or maybe best. Gourmet small pie pizzas also serve wine and beer. If you like Pizza and want to try the NYC Pizza experience, definitely go here.

Of the rooftop bar scene in nyc this is my favorite because of the nearly 360 views. It is worth the high price of cocktails to sit up here and take in the views for sunset.
