Assmannshausen is a small, picturesque location in the most romantic part of the Rhine, in the northwest corner of Hesse. With 75 hectares of vineyards, the wine growing community has the largest contiguous Pinot Noir area in Germany. The red wine tradition in Assmannshausen goes back to the founding of the municipality in 1108. The Assmannshaus Rote is particularly famous because the vines grow in sun-drenched steep slopes directly above the Rhine, whose slate-rich soil ensures a particularly racy wine. But Assmanshausen is not only known for its good red wine, the place also has a warm thermal spring containing lithium, which kept the spa running until after the war. Today Assmannshausen is primarily a resort and destination for vacationers from all over the world and offers excellent hotels and guest houses. Nature and hiking enthusiasts feel at home here as well as discerning lovers of culinary delights. Cozy wine bars, dignified restaurants and romantic arbor decks tempt you to rave about the Assmannshäuste Spätburgunder - one of the best German red wines.
