Food scene

1 block around the corner, they the best Croissants in town...or ever! Tiny and quick service. Drip coffee is weak so order Americano if you like a stronger.

1 block around the corner, hot and fresh food. I always get the Five Spice Popcorn Chicken & Beef Ho Fun but really can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. You must try the house made hot sauce, it is so good they sell it in jars. There is bar seating for singles. They get busy so FYI, you can order to-go online and run around the corner usually 15min later to pick up and skip the line :)

Good Coffee and hang out vibe. You have to go early for the Figgy Scones! It’s pretty much a Fig Newton in scone form.

About a 25 minute walk to the neighborhood next door but worth it! Go early... like when they open. There will be a line mid morning on weekends. Unlimited coffee and amazing hash brown cakes! There is bar seating for singles.

I think they are the best in town because they are moist and don’t taste like old fry oil :) Good Coffee too!

Sightseeing

A whole block of books with 4 floors! It’s like a book mall, even I’m still amazed every time I go. Grab a book and coffee in the small cafe and people watch one of Portland’s busy cross sections.

Such a lovely place to find calm... you’ll need it after trying to find parking up there :) Don’t miss the free rose garden just a few steps below it. Public transportation runs regularly there or walking and biking are very doable. It is on a hill however so wear good shoes and/or a lighter bike would be a good choice.

Worth the trip along the river and into what is called “The Gorge” which can be a dramatic valley. Bring your hiking shoes too because there are some amazing trails with impressive outlooks around there. There is a $7 round trip shuttle/tour bus that leave from Gateway transit station. One way would take about an hour...but relax and enjoy the view :)
