Breakheart Reservation is a lovely oasis in the midst of suburban towns north of Boston. There are two paved loops for walking, running, biking, or other activities. They are surrounded by woods and are very hilly, providing a great work-out in the beautiful setting. From the paved way, you can hike up to the top of several hills. There is a nice view of Boston from the higher ones on clear days. There is an upper lake at the top of some of the other trails. There is no swimming at that lake, but it is quite picturesque. You can also hike down from the paved way to the lower lake and hike it's perimeter. There is a sandy beach with life guards on this lake during summer months.

Good Harbor Beach is the most beautiful beach in Massachusetts. There is a small island across from the beach. As low tide approaches, you can walk over to the island on the sand in 6-10 inches of water and explore. Wear your water shoes, its pretty rocky on the island. Be sure to get off the island before the tide comes back in. As it comes in, a small stream fills with water and becomes a playground for children of all ages. There are hermit crabs, snails, and schools of tiny fish. You can float along the stream. You can swim, surf, or ride on boogie boards on the main beach. The waves are usually best as high tide approaches. http://gloucester-ma.gov/index.aspx?nid=299

This little gem is hidden away. The store front on Main Street is about 10 feet wide, appearing to be a little cafe. When you enter, you are led to the back of the room and around a corner into the dining area. The room is mostly full length pains of glass. The spectacular view is from 30 feet above Front Beach, with the open ocean stretching beyond. The food is very good and reasonably priced. The owner/manager and staff are also very good. Great for lunch or dinner. http://www.bracketts.com/
