There are plenty of free walks in the redwoods but the commercial operation 'Redwoods Treewalk' is a must-do. It is a series of bridges up in the treetops which can be done during the day or at night (with lighting). Amazing experience!

The short trip to Blue Lake is well worth the effort. It's a great spot for a walk (path right around the lake), a swim or just time relaxing.

Arts & Culture

This museum is closed at present due to earthquake risk - structure issues, however the architecture is stunning and when it's open the museum displays are very interesting, particularly the displays regarding how the building was used in the past. The displays regarding Māori are extremely well done. The simulated earthquake room is also well worth spending time in. The view from the top of the building is great.
