Food scene

Wandstead has a lovely high st with lots of cafes and restaurants. I recommend Chi Chi cafe for during the day (it closes at 5pm) and Piccolo for the evening. There are other restaurants also. The Larder is also very good and closes around 5/6.

Sightseeing

This is a beautiful very natural park. It’s not too groomed like most London parks. The walk through to Wanstead high st and tube takes 20 minutes. Turn left out of the flat, takes first left after church into park road and the entrance to the park is at the end of the road. Continue along the path bearing left up to Wanstead, taking any left hand turn up the hill until you reach a lovely church beside the golf course car park when you turn right into the Avenue which leads to the high st.

Travelling around

There are bus stops 2 mins from the flats where buses are very frequent and will take you to the tube stations of Wanstead and Leytonstone. Both tube stations are just 15/20 minutes walk away. There are also the overground stations of manor park and forest gate that take you to stratford and Liverpool st stations where you can switch to other tube lines. Then there is the overground Wanstead park station in forest gate that takes you to Camden and Hampstead Heath, for example.
Opposite the entrance to the Brading Crescent estate is Wanstead flats which are very beautiful and have lovely sunsets. The flat land used to be the grazing area for cattle and sheep. There are 3 ‘flats’. Walk directly across the one opposite and you can reach forest gate where there is the overground station of Wanstead park and forest gate station which goes to Liverpool st. To go to the central line tube walk across the middle ‘flat’ and bear right up to Leytonstone tube.

City advice

Don't miss

Washing machine

The washing machine is in the room opposite the bathroom. Load machine, put a tablet in, close door, select the cycle you want and press the ‘start’ illuminated button. If start/stop doesn’t appear the door is not closed or you’ve failed to select a program.
Customs and culture

Rubbish

Recycling: it’s important and very easy to recycle rubbish in the flat. On the right hand side of the back door to the garden is a plastic bag for paper and cardboard, on the left of the door is another bag for recycling plastic and glass. All uncooked vegetable food scraps go into the small pink and black bin on the counter by the back door. All other rubbish goes into the pedal bin in front of the radiator.
