Wells is a bustling seaside town, you will see many a visitor enjoying Fish and Chips in the harbour. Take the beach road to find a lovely sandy beach lined with beautiful beach huts. Try French's Fish and Chips, but beware of hungry seagulls.

Stoney and often windy, Salthouse beach is a local favourite of mine best enjoyed on a crisp wintery morning, then off to the Dun Cow pub for an excellent roast lunch and a glass of wine.

Food scene

Here are some of my favourite places to eat. We are very proud that Holt is home to a new Michelin Star Restaurant, perfect for a special treat.
The most popular eatery in Holt, booking recommended for evening meals in high season. Lovely kerb side seating perfect for a good coffee and people watching. The have WiFi for those who just can't live without it :)

Great food, wine and local ales. Walkable from the cottage if you enjoy a hike !! Definitely a nice cycle ride. Pub garden looking out to sea over Salthouse marshes. Sunday lunch is a must on a cold winters day. My faves are roast beef, chilli crab linguini, and local crab salad. Yummy. They only take bookings for large parties, but we never have to wait too long for a table.

Posh Fish and Chips..... apparently very good, we have not tried it ourselves. We prefer Albert's Fish and Chips opposite the cottage, take away and eat in the cottage garden. The chippy near Byfords is also very good.

You’ll need to plan well ahead to secure a table at this truly charming restaurant, as bookings fill up around 4 months in advance. The Georgian building has been lovingly restored by Chef-Owner Greg Anderson – formerly Head Chef at nearby Michelin-Starred Morston Hall – along with his partner Rebecca, a natural host, who looks after the service with smiles aplenty. You enter via the back of the building, through an illuminated garden, and are then warmly welcomed into a beautiful dining room, where the lovely handmade tables have the menu and cutlery secreted in a drawer. The finest local produce is delivered via a skilfully prepared tasting menu where deep flavours come together perfectly and no detail is overlooked – and the team of chefs present and explain the dishes personally.
