City advice

Getting around

travel

bus stops are close by and swing by often to get up and down the valley. many people ride the bus or shuttles to get to the ski resorts to assist with parking and the cost of parking.
Useful phrases

terms of endearment

if you hear people say these phrases: going up valley- you are traveling East to go towards Vail. Down valley you- are traveling west towards Glenwood Springs. "The pass" aka Vail pass, which is traveling east or west from Summit County. Summit County is where Silverthorn, Dillon, Frisco, Keystone, Copper Mountain, are located. Breckenridge is in Summit County, but its alittle farther off I-70.
Getting around

highway drive

2 main roads to get up and down the valley. I-70 and hwy 6. this isn't a freeway. you're driving in the mountains. drive awake, alert, and with patience. there aren't street lights on the hwy's- it's very, very dark outside at night. but again, you're in the mountain, not the city.
Customs and culture

you're in the Rockies

wildlife is very common. always drive with caution.
Book before you go

driving alerts via mobile

download the Eagle County Alerts, to receive texts and/or emails of what the driving conditions are. continuous updates of road closes, weather, incidents, or accidents.
Getting around

snow will cause closures

if it snows to where it is dangerous, or even any incident on i-70 related to snow, the Vail pass will close. it will alter any travel plans. if you live here or in Summit County, knowing the pass is closed means you're going to stay put until it reopens for travel, or you'll need to find alternate routes to get to your destination. if the pass closes, it is for your safety.
Book before you go

mailing items

if you mail something to someone, or if they mail something to you. Snow will cause a delay. road closures due to snow are a major factor of delays. prepare for late arrivals or deliveries. most items will be sent to whichever post office you use (the home owner's post office.) items can go to a physical address it allows it. post office hours are your typical M-F 8-4pm and part day on Saturdays.
Travelling with kids

hours of operation

stores and gas stations arent all open 24/7. keep in mind if you're traveling with kids. many restaurants dont serve food much later than 9pm. if you're going to a resort, they're hours will be on their terms. there are rest stops but in the winter, they may be closed also. Costco is in Gypsum, the gas station hours are: M-F 530a-9p, SA/SU 6a-7p.
Travelling with kids

24/7 stores

in eagle county, 1 walmart and 1 Walgreens. neither are 24/7 and both are in Avon. there is a Target but it's in Glenwood Springs, which is is about 20 min from Eagle. it is also not open 24/7.
