Adventure

Just around 2-3 hours south of Cebu City, Moalboal is a favorite destination of water lovers, specifically scuba and free divers. This small coastal town is best known for its sardine run, wherein millions of sardines form bait balls. What makes this spectacle magical is that the sardines don’t leave the shallows of Panagsama Beach. You can experience them year-round, even with just a pair of swimming goggles. A lot of sea turtles can also be seen in the area.

Pescador Island is a lonely, rocky island that sits at the south side of Tañon Strait. The strait, which is around 161 kilometers long, is one of the richest marine habitats in the country. It is home to various species of whales, porpoises, dolphins, sharks, rays, turtles, and other large marine animals, some of then highly endangered. Like many small islands and islets in the Philippines, Pescador Island is made up almost entirely of coral rock, suggesting that it might have been underwater in its early geological life.

At 1,013 meters above sea level, Osmeña Peak is Cebu’s highest. It is one of several spire-like formations comprising the Mantalongon Mountain Range in Dalaguete — perhaps the easiest, too. A day hike to Osmeña Peak will treat you to an amazing jagged skyline view, a refreshing sight of the shore, and even the far-off islands of Negros and Bohol.
