Food Scene

They serve Swedish traditional cuisine and is an establishment that's been open since 1733. My favourite item from the menu is their home-made 'sill' plate (pickled herring) and the main 'kroppkakor' from Småland (a rustic potato dish from the South of Sweden). It's quite pricey, but it'is only a 3 minutes walk from our flat and the food is great!

One of my favourite cafés next to Nytorget (super hip spot in SoFo). The have old vintage furniture, play music from the 20s-40s and serve some really nice cakes and biscuits. It's on a short walking distance from our flat.

This is, in my opinion, the best sushi place in Stockholm. It's a hole-in-the-wall on shopping street Götgatan next to the metro station Slussen. It's a nice little place, perfect for a quick lunch, and they use chilli to spice up their sushi menu. I would recommend a normal sushi plate for a variety of pieces.

In my opinion, they serve the best coffee in Stockholm. This is an award-winning coffee shop serving single origin coffee, and they have their roastery just outside of Stockholm. Depending on which coffee beans they use at the moment (they change every couple of days), ask them what they recommend from the coffee menu. You can walk there from our flat (10 minutes), or take the bus to Mariatorget.

They have a legendary white hot chocolate which is to die for! This cafe's name means 'The Chocolate Cup' and they're famous for their hot chocolate. It's also a long-standing gay hotspot in Stockholm, and you'll recognise it by the rainbow-flag in the window. It's located in Gamla Stan/'the Old Town', which is also the name of the tube stop.

A long-standing (60 years old) establishment very close to our flat. They bake their own bread, pralines, cakes and biscuits and have two floors of seating. They have many traditional Swedish baked goods on the menu, and I would recommend 'räksmörgås' (savoury mayonnaise prawn open sandwich) or 'kanelbulle' (cinnamon bun) if you want something typically Swedish.

This is a really quirky Thai food restaurant. Eating there is an experience as instead of traditional lighting, you are in near darkness but surrounded by thousands of fairy lights and other lamps, candles and neon light sources. The portions are large and the food is delicious.

This is a popular, long-standing Indian food establishment. They now own several restaurants across Stockholm but this is the original. We would recommend booking a table or coming early as it's very popular. We love the vegetarian menu!

This is a little place which does vegetarian or falafel wraps. The wraps are delicious and budget friendly and it is located inside a large food court and shopping gallery called Söderhallarna.

Drinks & Nightlife

Himlen is a skybar with a beautiful Panoramic 360 degrees view over Stockholm, on the top of shopping mall/student flat building 'Skrapan', just next to our flat. They serve some really nice cocktails to reasonable prices, and I would recommend going there in the late afternoon/early evening as it often becomes very crowded later on.

Sightseeing

Stockholm was born on this charming little island and and the alleyways, cobbled streets and buildings date back to the 13th century. It has Mårten Trotzigs gränd, the narrowest alley in the whole of Stockholm and you can even touch the buildings on either side of you as you climb the steps. There are lots of tourist friendly shops, churches and iconic architecture and it is home to The Royal Palace, the Nobel Museum and the oldest restaurant in the world with an unaltered interior (Den Gyldene Freden) according to The Guinness Book of World Records.

Parks & Nature

This beautiful park is located on a hill next to The Sofia Church which looks a bit like a fairy tale castle. Hundreds of years ago this used to be one of the poorest areas of Stockholm, but today it is a thriving fashionable hotspot next to Nytorget. Some very old cottages remain and are today used by local artists as their painting or writing studios. In Summer this a very popular picnic and hang out area as in Stockholm you are allowed to drink alcohol in parks until 10pm.

This is a second hand, charity and vintage shop which donates their proceeds to projects in West Africa. They have 2 shops next to each other - one which sells vintage clothes from the 50s-70s and the other sells flea market bargains, antiques and vinyl records as well as a range of fair trade products.
